Sometimes
Some crimes
Go slippin through the cracks
But these two
Gumshoes
Are picking up the slack

I really wouldn't mind just taking the dog out for a walk as some kind of evidencial t-ray scanner

The dog moves towards whatever mob last touched the item you offer it and the leash tethers you to the dog and pulls you along. Alternatively, it gives you a list of dna/fingerprints to choose from and it moves towards the one you chose.

Putting the detective's trench coat on the hound could turn him into the Macgriff the Crime Dog who takes a bite out of greytide

Something less forceful than this so it can't be used to valid hunt (but can be used to valid detect)

Like a mine sweeper, the dog moves one tile ahead of you with the leash in the hand in unison and fingerprints from a object trace illuminate, it has a radius to what it can 'see' and will rapidly start borking at the related source of a smell or random food objects in the pockets of people (people don't illuminate)

> There's also the fact that the leash could be a generic dog/mob walking object but the detective's bloodhound/german shepard is specifically good at that job, compared to something different like a carp on a leash which will surely hover within your 3x3 surrounding space biting people

I think calling it "valid hunting" is a little pointlessly stigmatizing. The point is the detective is supposed to be using clues to solve crimes and track down the bad guys. Even a slow-moving dog isn't going to transform him into super powergamer fodder. It just gives an extra tool for tracking down that stubborn antag hiding out or in disguise. Alternatively, shoot the dog.

Maybe only a specific fingerprint. Otherwise the dog would just turn the hallway a goofy shade of red and be useless.

You'd be surprised how much stuff does not get prints on it our detective system is secretly pretty robust it's just sometimes it's hard to find all the things with prints on em
