Curious as to which phones people here use.

I have a Nokia from the Symbian era, which means it has all the sturdiness and features of a brick

on the arrival shuttle, I saw the iconic toolbox on the ground. I clubbed myself in the head with it trying to figure out the controls.
Setting the tool box, now bloodied, back on the table; I went to heal myself with a medkit. I clubbed myself in the head with that too.
I've come a long ways from asking how to switch hands.

Re: Which phone do you use?
I've never owned a cell phone myself. Well if you want to be technical I own a trac-phone; but it is the barest of models and I only keep it in my car to emergency, and don't use it to call anyone other than home/Triple A

Galaxy S6. Best phone I've ever had. All my other android phones have broken within 6 months and I don't even download many apps.

I have a Galaxy S2, super old and most programs launched on it crash immediately. I can't receive half of group chat messages and it once delayed a phone call by a good 15 minutes. I got my eyes on the S6 maybe I'll get that soon-ish.

Iphone 5C
It was the cheapest option to upgrade to when I had the option.
It's okay, I guess.
Got a free waterproof case with it so I listen to Pandora while I shower.

22 years old, never owned a cell phone in my life. I just think it's annoying that people can bother you all the time. Plus here I notice it's a really big distraction for many people at work or even in general like with the fucker who totaled my car back in 2012

Re: Which phone do you use?
Assuming you have some self control, you can manage whether or not people can reach you. Me, I'm almost never instantly reachable via phone. I do however respond to it at my own time. Same for stuff like email. I see and use my phone as a convenience to me, absolutely not as a thing I need to respond to whenever it makes a beep. I also get annoyed when people's phones ring, and the thought "You are not important!" boils up in my head as they loudly converse about whatever bs. But likewise I'm not important either and have no right to annoy other people when my phone rings, so I keep it on silent. I did get an Android Wear watch about a month ago and it's been really great! When I have some sort of relevant notification, it just buzzes on my wrist, and I can choose to either triage the alert then, or ignore it, depending on the appropriateness of the situation. So I've solved my problem by throwing more money at it
It's also worth remembering that while we may call it a "phone", what that device in fact is, is an actual "personal computer". It's extremely capable and you can do a lot with it, and it's just yours, nobody else can mess it up. Of course if you've never had one, you might go (stereotypical old man voice is mandatory) "I dun't need any of dis new fangled stuff. I can manage fine without it." But once you've used it, you likely won't go back. The thing is, it enables a lot of different things, you can't say "oh you can watch cats on youtube on it" or "oh you can use it for sms/im/calls" or "oh you can use it for surfing the web" or "oh you can use it to play games", because you can also use it for stuff like learning, writing, production, organizing and so forth. There have been so many cases where I used my phone to SSH into some server and fix some issue; or connect to a mysql database and fix an issue; or remote-desktop onto my parents' computer and save the day; or even do emergency programming on a web server. Sure, it doesn't do any of that better than a PC, but it does it in much less time than having to drive to my folks' house and fixing it in person; or having to seek out a computer to solve an emergency while outside or on call. What you'd need a phone for is for you to determine. It can however do a lot more than you might think.
The counter argument, that we survive fine without it, is perfectly valid though, but man is life easier with it. Not having to memorize addresses, paths to various places, being able to look up facts, being able to solve problems while out, being able to have a life while on-call, being able to use your downtime more effectively for both work and play. It's great!

Re: Which phone do you use?
Galaxy S3. Its starting to feel a bit slugish, but damn this phone has lasted me a long time (3 years) with a lot of knocks along the way.
Kinda want a newer one but contracts are so damn expensive. I really dont want to pay £40 per month for 24 months, when im only £12 per month and get the same data/minutes.

Re: Which phone do you use?
I gave up on contracts. In early 2016, my current one ends. I'll then transition to a pay-as-you-go sim card with a gig of data extension for 7 euro per month.
I bought my current phone (LG G4) off contract anyway.

It may still be possible to root your S6 if you have not taken the latest OTA. Mine is currently rooted, running OC3.captain sawrge wrote:galaxy s6.
