what if basil and sibyl had the same type of map rotation system and the same code (eg basil doesn't have cat people or sanic speed)

but

sibyl was capped to 50-60 players

reasons to do this:

having more than 60 people on the station is a bit much don't you think

basil would be more on the light to medium RP side and sibyl would be on the more no to light rp side

can cater to two different tastes at once

why even have a second server if one is always empty

reasons not to do this:

server wars

communities become extreme, eg basil becomes extremely gay and mega-rp with staticnamers and a metacrew while sibyl becomes a silent rp-less valid-hunt zone

expensive to run

admins tend to stick to one or the other server almost exclusively

what do you think?

Literally the only reason I play on /tg/ is because it has the most people out of any other SS13 server.

It's been tried before, The reality here is that if sybil is capped, people just won't play. It's impossible to force people to play low pop when they want high pop, which is kind of what we're known for.

I'd really rather not go play with 5 other people on basil. I'd rather play with 60-80 on Sybil. I'll just go play something else if it hits the 60 cap.

This. Already been done. People just didn't play rather than even attempt to move to Basil.

If you want a real idea that's never been tried try this out for size:

Wipe Basil utterly, clone configs/saves from Sybil. Leave Basil in a perma empty state.

When a round ends on Sybil with a ton of players (~100) and Basil is unused silently forward half the players to basil on reconnect instead of sending them to sybil again. Let them play two 50 person rounds instead.

Fun side benefit, screws with metafriends.

All these constant suggestions and idea's on how 'shit' and bad high pop is yet do people stop to think that maybe people really like playing on high population rounds/servers in the first place?

As a bonus, just rename it sybil and have two identical sybil servers so they can't even tell they are on the wrong server. It's pure sadistic genius

Basil existed for a purpose. It no longer has that purpose. We don't need to invent a problem just so basil can exist to solve it.

Just take it down and bring it back if we ever have a need for it.
