The pull request wrote: This is heavily work-in-progress.
Despite the metal and industry the universe uses, primal elements still compose it, and these forces can be tapped and harnessed for various uses. People who utilize these forces are known as witches (or warlocks, depending on gender). In this context, witchcraft is the utilization of the primal elements that make up the universe: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air, as well as Ether, which can be viewed as magic.
An individual can attune themselves to a specific element to manipulate their own bodies in various ways, or use certain objects to keep themselves whole.
Currently, there is no way to become a witch outside of admin intervention.
Features as of right now:I am open to any and all suggestions for this project.
- Attunement - become attuned to a specific element to affect yourself in various ways, i.e. earth affinity helps nearby plants grow and slowly regenerates your health

I'm an ex-coder for /tg/. I made the original versions of clockcult, shadowlings, revenants, His Grace, and other stuff.
I don't play, code, or participate in the community, but I occasionally post dumb stuff in the hut.

So um. Isn't Witch actually a sexless term and Warlock "Oathbreaker". SO like...calling a witch one is a grave insult.

Re: Witchcraft
I've head the same as Xhuis has, Warlocks being male Witches, but if you watched some other stuff (like the show Charmed) they just had male witches be... male witches.ThanatosRa wrote:So um. Re: Witchcraft
I've always learned it as:
Wizards study for their power; sorcerors have it innately; warlocks and witches make deals with otherworldly beings to get it. Sorcerors specialise in a wide variety of spells, wizards have a more focused approach, warlocks specialise in darker magics and summoning, and witches specialise in hexes, curses and maladies.
A wizard will throw a fireball at you, then a jet of flame, then a wall of fire, then another fireball for good measure.
A warlock will summon a tentacle monster from the abyss to devour you.
A witch will summon a tentacle monster from the abyss and then get it to curse your firstborn child.
A sorceror will throw a fireball at you, then a spike of ice, then a lightning bolt, and then a blast of force.
(Clerics, priests, inquisitors and paladins source their powers from deities - clerics and priests heal with it, whilst paladins and inquisitors fight with it. Druids and shamans get their powers from nature - druids heal, and shamans fight.)
So technically our Wizards aren't really wizards, they're sorcerors.

Re: Witchcraft
I tend to stick with the Discworld definitions
Wizards studied magic so much they know they shouldn't use it, because it weakens the fabric of reality. Not that it stops them, but most of the time they're too busy sleeping or eating to cast spells.
Below that are mages which are just wizards who flunked out of Unseen University and know a few parlour tricks.
Then there are conjurers who are mead drinking tree huggers who laugh a lot.
At the bottom you have thaumaturges who you can't trust to wash out an alembic.
The witches in Discworld prefer not to use magic because they find psychology and a healthy dose of common sense works much better

Setting the tool box, now bloodied, back on the table; I went to heal myself with a medkit. I clubbed myself in the head with that too.
I've come a long ways from asking how to switch hands.

No adding witchcraft until we can make funeral pyres to burn them. That is all.

Re: Witchcraft
Also parasitic stories are a thing in discworld and if a witch overuses magic she can go full cackler and end up being tossed into an oven in a gingerbread house.Ricotez wrote: The witches in Discworld prefer not to use magic because they find psychology and a healthy dose of common sense works much better
Their psychology capability also sort of ties into belief having tangible power in discworld so if you fool people well enough free magic basically.
Having the ability to fool people with fake versions of your actual abilities and control them by giving orders to say run away they actually follow would be a nice change of pace but not really suited to here.

witches, wizards, sorcerors, warlocks what's the difference, they all float if you put them in a river

Re: Witchcraft
Wizards, witches, warlocks, sorcerers, mages, arcanists, and so on are all whatever the fuck you want them to be, because they're fictional concepts and they're not consistently applied across different settings in the same way. It's just like vampires: other than one thing (blood/magic) there is virtually no common ground between different versions of the concept.

Re: Witchcraft
Well, aside from witches, you also burn wood. And what does wood do? Make bridges! But you can make bridges out of stone too... wood floats! And so does cider, great gravy, cherries, mud, churches, lead and ducks! So if she weighs the same as a duck... she's made of wood. And therefore, a witch!imblyings wrote:witches, wizards, sorcerors, warlocks what's the difference, they all float if you put them in a river

Jesus Christ you people couldn't even go three replies without derailing the thread. In this context:
