What's been in the trial is nowhere near as bad as Dragon Age 2 was. Trashing the human facial animations and weird movement is fine, but gameplay wise, it's definitely the strongest of the series.

Mass Effect was never supposed to be a third-person shooter, it was supposed to be an RPG. Writing matters to me more than shooting people, and from what I've seen? Writing is trash, and so is voice acting.

It still is though? And yes, it was supposed to be a third-person shooter, hence why every game has been from the third-person perspective. Arguing about the quality of the writing is fine, because it seems half of it is at least decent and the other half is complete trash full of overused cliches, or seem like they're written by a teenager. Old Bioware is dead and gone, but personally, Andromeda isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be.

A significant factor is Hype though and disappointment that it didn't live up to it.
I'd personally felt that this would be what would revive and redeem the franchise after the mistakes of 3.
Guess not though.
I'm actually still tempted in a "What the hell why not." but That'll have to wait for a sale.

I have to clarify that my favourite RPGs (and also my favourite games, period), Alpha Protocol and Vampire: Bloodlines, both had absolutely horrid gunplay, but it wasn't shooting that made them great.

Combat-wise I'd say yeah, they actually did a good job. I have a feeling they spent most of their time on that. Overall though it doesn't feel as bad as 3 from my 10 hour trial time up. I'm actually interested in the main story, it's not bad.

I would forgive their shitty animations if they had an actual dialogue system aside from a couple choices that don't affect the outcome. Instead of shaping your character like you did with Paragon/Renegade in the previous, Male/Female Ryder each have their own preset personality with different responses. You just get to pick which one. In that sense the roleplaying in RPG is extremely limited and disappointing. At least datamining has shown that some of the choices you make do cause big changes. Unlike before though, datamining shows no squad members can be killed (no awesome standoff like with Wrex in the first).

Here's hoping in 2-3 years that Andromeda 2 will fulfill.

Also Manveer "Shariah or die" Heir got fired for that.

The more I read about ME:A, the more I feel that someone in the Bioware (or maybe EA?) saw The Force Awakens or the Jurassic World, and said: "Yes, that's what we need. A soft reboot of the franchise. It'll still be a sequel, but at the same time, it won't be!"

There's nothing extra-special-wrong with how romance/women in the game has been handled- the problem is that the game is just poorly written, animated, and voice acted in general.

Because when EA was looking for the people to make their newest AAA title, they saw a bunch of gender studies majors, whose only marketable skills are inventing pronouns and making coffee at Starbucks, and said: "You know what? They'll do fine!".
I'm not fucking joking here. If you look up who the woman in charge of animations was, it will clear up a lot. Same with the writing.

Since Pillz insists that gameplay is decent, I guess Curry Thunder did a good job after all.

Funnily enough, datamining apparently revealed that you can sleep around with multiple people except the turian/shark guy, who require you to lock in to just them.

Exiles, the Ket aliens, and ancient robots.

Fighting the Ket is the worst because their boss is a floating guy with a shield orb you have to break before you can damage him. Plus he remakes the fucking orb like 10 seconds after you break it so you need everyone to take him down.

The robot boss is a giant metal dildo who shoots homing rockets and charges your group. It's so tall that if it goes through a doorway it smashes the top open (thanks frostbyte engine).

The exile boss is just the cerberus mech from 2/3 basically.

That and BW Montreal has no experience with the Frostbyte engine, which sucks at facial expressions. If Edmonton, the ones behind DA:I did it, it might be a bit better.
