Floor painting, anyone?
So. Your an engineer who thinks he's hot shit right? You've stolen all the engineering materials in engineering, three RCD's, and enough glass to refill each of em. You got the station blueprints, and an airlock painter all stuffed into an engineering locker, locked and ready to head off to your planned reconstruction of old bar in maint. You got your hard suit and oxygen supply for your more daring expansion of said bar into space. You got it all... But wait.. Do you?
As the final dusty wooden floor tile in this vast fuckup that is old bar is being pryed ever so carefully from the floor by your muscle bound engineering arms you pause for a moment, admiring the beauty of the groundwork you just laid (or un-laid) for your beautiful, carefully planned revision of old bar. But wait, what's this!? The tiles you crafted from metal are somehow phase shifting and becoming wood once they hit the floor!! CALL THE ERT, THE HOUR OF WORK YOU DID IS RUINED BY THE INABILITY TO CHANGE THE AESTHETICS OF THE FLOORING!!
For god sakes add floor painters. Being everyone's fucking fix it man is bad enough when you don't get any kind of rewarding gameplay in return, but we cannot even change the floors in our building projects for god sakes? This is like being cooked alive in a microwave oven which utilises the autistic end of the light spectrum to cook you.
And admins saying "muh non-existent paint buckets are a thing" does not help.

Re: Floor painting, anyone?
its been suggested for years and the general reply is either "it's really hard to pull off, let alone pull off well" or "can't be bothered"
our tile icon system is pretty damn messy, boasting around 4,000 sprite, handled largely by using directions. if you've ever mapped in the past before, you'll know how frustrating it was to find the right kind of tile even with a dedicated icon window displaying all your choices visually. now it's handled through paths, and there's still something like 20-30 variations from that alone, not counting corners.
tl;dr it's hard to do

I don't understand, you can already switch wood out for metal

The meta bar floor tiles aren't actually wood though, they're the kind of magic metal floor tiles that have a preset colour (like medbay tiles always looking white when you replace them).
