Plasmamen aren't useless.
Plasmamen, the race thought by most people to be a useless 'hardmode', are actually a race that if played to their advantages can be very stronk. The game is designed and balanced around Humans and sometimes Lizardmen, so plasmeme balance is often forgotten. Because of this, plasmemes have a number of hidden advantages in spess.
1. They are immune to toxins, and are actually healed by them.
This makes plasmemes immune to many toxins, and they are capable of taking many dangerous medicines without side affects.
2. Being forced to wear a suit and internals makes them immune to losses of air, and capable of wading through any type of smoke unharmed.
3. Their helmet has pressure protection.
This may not seem huge when their suit isn't immune to low pressures, but I have found that it makes plasmemes able to survive in a vaccuum significantly longer than humans.
4. Lighting themselves on fire is a great defense mechanism.
They may be slow moving and vulnerable to many types of damage, but spontaneous combustion comes in handy in a tight situation.
5. Replacing their suit and helment with an atmos firesuit allows them to burn infinitely without damage.
High cool factor, high deadliness.
6. The helmet makes them immune to flashes.
In rev rounds, they may become allied 'moles' to the revs, which is fun.
7. To reiterate, they are immune to ALMOST EVERY COMMON POISON which is actually a massive buff
8. If lit on fire, their suit automatically extinguishes them.
They still retain a LOT of heat in the suit though, and they take double burn damage.
9. People are generally nice to plasmemes
People aren't racist against them like lizards, and people know they can't really stand a chance in combat against a human. Most people trust plasmemes because of this.
To conclude, plasmemes are not OP but they do have a very nice gameplay niche that actually gives them some advantages in gameplay.
Why they aren't OP
1. REALLLLLY slow
so useless in unarmed combat
2. Can't play sec or command roles
3. forced to wear their suit
4. Generally just nonagressive and nice because they are useless in combat.
5. Can't take pills or drink anything
6. Can't be cloned without burning to death
7. people usually just morgue dead plasmemes instead of borging them.
Some people don't know you can borg them, or just are afraid of being burned by them
8. Take double burn and I think double brute damage
9. any amount of heat, caused by being on fire or anything, can be deadly
They can't remove their suit, but their suit holds heat for a very long time
10. belt slot is always filled by their plasma tank

False. I tried to make plasma heal plasmamen last week, but someone hates plasmamen. They are immune to radiation though.tacolizard wrote: 1. They are immune to toxins, and are actually healed by them.

Smoke reagents still do their touch reaction.2. Being forced to wear a suit and internals makes them immune to losses of air, and capable of wading through any type of smoke unharmed.
Chemical flash grenades so good.6. The helmet makes them immune to flashes.
No. I think you're thinking of the not fiery skeletons.7. To reiterate, they are immune to ALMOST EVERY COMMON POISON which is actually a massive buff
Take off your suit and set your non-plasmaman enemies on fire and counterattack while they roll on the ground. Plasmamen also take only 1.5 times burn damage now.8. If lit on fire, their suit automatically extinguishes them.
They still retain a LOT of heat in the suit though, and they take double burn damage.
I've been lynched by non-antags as a plasmaman despite dinduing nuffin because people make up stuff so they can execute me by taking off my suit.9. People are generally nice to plasmemes
You can run into space for a few seconds to take off your helmet and pop some meds.5. Can't take pills or drink anything
tbh people just leave me in some corner of the station just as often as I'm brought to the morgue because people really don't like touching suitless plasmamen.7. people usually just morgue dead plasmemes instead of borging them.
Some people don't know you can borg them, or just are afraid of being burned by them
1.5x burn damage, normal brute8. Take double burn and I think double brute damage

i'm at work and can't write a paragraph but most of your post is hilariously inaccuratetacolizard wrote: 4. Lighting themselves on fire is a great defense mechanism.

taking your helmet off and gently tickling your attacker with a weak fire stack that usually extinguishes itself before they take damage offers your attacker the unique opportunity to kill you by disarming you and running away with your helmet
EDIT: i'm at home and i have more time to be a jerk to you
true, this also makes them immune to rad storms so they can sulk about outside dragging poor folk into themtacolizard wrote: 7. To reiterate, they are immune to ALMOST EVERY COMMON POISON which is actually a massive buff
Fuck that, no they aren't. Prepare to die death after death to people that don't know how your anatomy works and accidentally killed you in the process of fucking with you.tacolizard wrote: 9. People are generally nice to plasmemes

Killing you for your flash immunity is a small trifle to revolutionaries. If you make any attempt to resist them, you will be instantly murdered. Again, expect security officers with no understanding of your anatomy to murder you under pressure because they don't know of your flash immunity. I myself personally prefer to kill plasmamen for a nice full-body disguise when I'm an antagonist.tacolizard wrote: 6. The helmet makes them immune to flashes.

Plasmamen are not healed by toxins and really have no reaction to them.tacolizard wrote: 1. They are immune to toxins, and are actually healed by them.

Basically, plasmamen only make good xenobiologists or virologists.

Re: Plasmamen aren't useless.
They are not immune to toxins except rads, and the reason they live longer in space is that they're immune to cold. On that note, don't cryo them.
Oh and the permaburning atmos suit trick was patched out, it won't stop you from burning if your bones were on fire but it prevents external fire.

Stop being dicks outside the hut. This is obviously a genuine informative post. A lot of this stuff I personally didn't know either and its good to have a discussion over this so people can bring up new information or correct stuff.kevinz000 wrote:This isn't the hut.

I won't defend posts that have a low effort shitpost and nothing more, but I don't THINK the intention here for either of the quoted posters was to be rude

plasmaman atmos tech is best job combo
one time I made a plasma room in the construction area with disposals as an entrance/exit and an autocloner inside. I kept throwing myself out naked and piling up burning skeletons in the hallway

Whenever i have to leave the game as a plasmaman i loudly announce that i am going on a cigarette break, head to the bar, take my suit off and then light and smoke a cigarette while i burn to death

Re: Plasmamen aren't useless.
Some fresh facts about plasmamen:
-They can prevent burning by wearing a pressure-proof suit (aka spacesuits). If they were already burning it won't stop them, but otherwise it'll prevent self-igniting.
-If they self-ignited no suit can protect them, they have to be extinguished to survive. This is not the case for other flame sources, which do get stopped by fire immune suits.
-As i said before, they're completely cold-immune. Some brute chem would allow them to explore space fairly unhindered since they're not slowed down either.
-Being rad-immune makes them good SM workers. Also handy for genetics, since they don't suffer from it.
-They're immune to viruses.
-They process chems normally and take normal toxin damage. Not a surprise, but i wanted to make that clear.

Re: Plasmamen aren't useless.
Downside ot being cold immune is that cryo won't work on you. Also means that if you get cell damage, you need to get Rezadone which is a tricky chem to make.
Immunity to disease is a double-edged sword - no brainrot but no healing virii either.
