Bees: Why they aren't a reasonable choice
As someone who enjoys going botanist/lifebringer, I really struggle to see why cargo ever orders bees on request, or why responsible botanists would ever ask.
In theory you could use them to replicate something like flight potion, but every time I've seen them use it was to basically destroy the station. It's already easy to get large amounts of any chem botany might need, they can produce their own mutagen easily with one mutation, and it's better to just ask for some saltpeter in exchange for omnizine.
Bees are hostile and basically on the same level as kudzu where they can destroy the station but traitors can't easily get them unless there's a negligent cargo to order it.

Why are bees so aggressive, anyway? Is Nanotrasen importing space-African bees for beekeeping?

Access to a chem dispenser does the same thing even better.Remie Richards wrote:they make your plants better.
It'd be different if botany innately had bees, otherwise bee requests overwhelmingly benefit traitors more than normal station members.

fun fact africanized killer bees only exist because of an accident in 1957 when imported african queen bees and swarms of european worker bees escaped an experimental apiary and bred 100 miles away.

Port Goon happy, fun face bees, our bees are angry mutagenic bees.
Though I do like the idea of some central scientists breeding death bees and then when asked what use death bees are on space stations they shrugged and went 'lets see' then sent them to SS13.

Two words: Double Yield
it makes mass production of plants easier, with the added bonus of being able to also copy and replicate rare chems if you want them to.
Now that planks are worth 50 cargo points a pop it might be a bit more in cargo's favor to order bees for botany, as they can supply them with a constant stream of cargo points via planks.

Are you implying that botany might actually be useful to another part of the station?Dr_bee wrote:Two words: Double Yield

Re: Bees: Why they aren't a reasonable choice
Sup I always order bees as a botanist. They increase potency by themselves, they raise yield to 20, and they stop people from breaking in to my department. Bees aren't exactly "station destroying" when there's no reliable way to lead them where you want them to go, and anyone in a hardsuit is immune.
I always make sure to give cargo an industrial amount of wood and the chef a full smartfridge whenever I get bees.

Hi Jayne Staymates here.
Bees are good.
They produce honey.
They max out your production.
Youre the botanist.
You don't need to go anywhere.
You don't need doors.
Why ever leave your plants and bees?
Lock the doors.
Turn off the lights.
Enjoy your job.
Asshole breaks in?
Laugh as your army of guards poke them to death with whatever you please.
Admin bwoinks you?
Tell them to fuck off.
They saw the bees.
They went in there themselves.
Their fault.

does anyone have that screenshot of the command report saying the gateway had malfunctioned and connected somewhere horrible, and crew were to not under any circumstances open the door, followed scant lines later with people screaming about bees?

I did set up the goon bee sprites for it, but the goons were iffy about it and I agreed, just didn't fit our theme and playersReece wrote:Port Goon happy, fun face bees, our bees are angry mutagenic bees.

I might do them for a space ruin though

Re: Bees: Why they aren't a reasonable choice
I like bees.
If I'm an engineer/borg and I see botany has bees I'll usually make them a double-airlock to keep the bees contained.
I also love bee-based gimmicks.
Like the one time Bryce Jackson walled off botany and made it into his personal bee-dome.
So at round end I spawned myself in as a chubby man in a bee suit named "The Bee Fairy" and turned Bryce into a giant bee named Bee-Ryce.

with my new PR, the honey that bees make is actually a pretty decent healing chem.
