Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
We have beds, and a sleeping mechanic (type sleep and you can go to sleep for a while). However sleeping has no functional purpose in game, you don't get tired so it's unnecessary, and it performs no real function.
-------
My humble proposal is to make it that sleeping will heal a player of minor brute or burn injuries they have sustained.
Essentially, if a player has suffered 10 or less damage to any limb, sleeping will heal that limb back to full health. However if the player has 11 or more damage to a limb, sleeping will not heal that limb at all.
The idea here is to allow players a way to heal themselves of very minor injuries by sleeping it off, while more serious injuries will need proper medical attention.
Thank you.

In terms of having a actual, realist, effect in game.
Reducing stamina damage or drunkenness is a edge case and usually not worth a mention. Stamina damage recharges quickly enough by itself that sleeping is not needed, and being drunk is usually as concious choice.

Tbh I want being well-fed to heal brute/burn/tox damage that's 10 or below and sleep to help with hallucinations and speed up metabolic rates.

i always thought it did that
when i was flashing red in a more or less fucked situation i'd go to sleep to maybe have a slim chance of extending my live with heals
but yeah if this isn't already in the game add it

Maybe you should have regenerative viruses only activate when you're asleep for balance because being passively active all the time with wolverine healing factors is generally a pain.

The only use I've found for sleeping is tactical napping amongst other dead bodies to be left alone during a raid, but even then I'll prefer to *faint to avoid snoring.

I should clarify I mean sleeping in a bed should heal light injuries.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
That implies that sleeping in a dog bed would not be as healing, and that having a blanket over you/better qualities of bed could incur bufffs.

Stop and reconsider if you're attempting to buff this feature because it "Makes sense" instead of "Makes the gameplay better". Hitting the sleep button and healing your wounds but giving yourself all the amazing gameplay of watching yourself lying on the ground at a 90% black screen does not make the gameplay of SS13 better. It is the gameplay of progress quest, I hit this button and rewards happen, and then I wait.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
I see it as a punishment for getting hurt in the first place and not being able to medicate yourself. Oh you got beaten up but medbay exploded, there's nothing you can do right now to fix your condition besides finding somewhere safe to have a nap and wear your internals while doing so incase some shitter releases No2 or plasma.Ergovisavi wrote:>I want to buff this thing that literally, LITERALLY involves NOT playing the game

Amusingly, this was added by Ergo.
Which completely defeats his point above.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
My point stands even if there are some more niche applications to sleeping.
I think the addition would be a positive feature, it would allow people to sleep off minor injuries if they are unable to get proper low level medical treatment from medbay. It also has a good risk vs reward in that sleeping leaves you utterly vulnerable to anything for the duration that you are sleeping.

for krav maga or cqc you'd step on their throats
everybody else would need to acquire a blanket, which honestly isn't going to be much of a challenge but hey, we don't have healing pillows

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
Beds are made out of metal, shouldn't they (the matress) be revised to be made out of cloth? Unless we have some sort of pseudo explanation that its a metal frame bed.
You know instant killing people by snapping their necks can be done while they are upright but won't actually be a intuitive mechanic eitherway, because you'd just aggressive intent (which is piss easy to do on someone that is AFK), pull into a stranglehold and do your combo wombo to snap then even if they aren't immediately dead or in crit, just curb stomp them until they die.
Sometimes unavoidable case of instant death without weapons. No thank you.
Getting the shit beaten out of you as a ashwalker however and literally limping away to drink some gutlunch milk, chew on some leaves & take a nap between the storm would be worthwhile however.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
If you want to be extreme you could make it that the higher quality the materials of the bed, the more health you can possibly heal.
So if you just slap down a metal bed in maint, you can only heal any damage that is 5 damage or less. If you sleep on a bed with a blanket, you can get 10 damage off. But if you sleep in a luxurious bed then you can get 15 health off, etc, etc.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
No it wasn't. Hostile mobs always ignored you by default if you were unconscious. I kept that functionality in by default because people were whining. Kor eventually (and rightfully) made mining mobs just murder you if you tried this bullshit.
As for the rest of this thread, please stop confusing INTERESTING with FUN. They're not the same thing, and we need more of the latter than the former.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
From a brief glance at Wikipedia, playing dead does have precedent in nature to discourage predators who only take interest in live prey (because who knows what state dead prey is in) and given as advice to humans for avoiding bears, who typically don't eat humans and attack only as a perceived threat, and hopefully will lose interest and wander off if a human appears to be dead or inactive.
Personally I've used sleep as something like a pause mode, if I'm gonna be AFK for a significant amount of time it's a decent in-character way to show that.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
It'd be more fair and balanced if sleeping gave penalties to if you're woken up by shaking or being attacked but can be cancelled anytime like resting, stamina damage or something from a disturbed sleep, causes you to be groggy and handicaps your stamina until the effect wears off.
I enjoy looking foward to chemicals that deliberately dope you like morphine but also stunlocks you into nightmares preventing you from waking up yourself dealing brain damage, or a sleep terror virus to some extent that keeps you awake all the time.
Inb4 people put in a tiredness bar to replace the stamina system entirely.

There's other drinks but yeah, this makes the bartender substantially more useful because the soft drink machine has a unlimited supply while power is active. Is the SM engine blows and the station depowers, then its relying on botany to grow coffee plants.Professor Hangar wrote:Or just drink coffee.

Re: Make Sleeping Passively Heal Minor Injuries Slightly
Coffee is actually super flexible given not only is it a speed boost but counteracts tranquillisers and cold temperatures, which is great when you have a dick ass changeling around spamming cryosting or doctors who don't realise what morphine actually does. (because what it does ingame doesn't really have much to do with real life; if you've had enough morphine to get knocked out IRL you're probably gonna die from it)

Coffee latte (soy milk, ask botany) heals you too, its slightly more useful than just purging morphine with charcoal.

Laying down should probably help stabilizing you, or maybe slow down a potential sliding into critical.
