Re: I need help mapping
Disposals is a bit iffy to get the hang off, and there's no guide on it as far as I know. So I'll try and explain it.
Firstly you have your standard pipe
These are pretty basic, anything inside these pipes will travel in the direction it was inserted from.
Now these pipes work with the Disposal Bins and Disposal Connectors.
On the right side is the Disposal Bin and the Disposal Connector, of which the bin is usually ontop of the connector on the map.
Now imagine someone puts a item inside the disposal bin on the left side of that image, that item will travel downwards once it's entered the piping system.
So that's the basic's of how piping works, however we need to have several dozen Disposal Bins connect to the disposal pipes but we don't want items to go in a loop and exit into another disposal bin.
-------
Now onto the more advance disposal concept's, Disposal Junctions.
These are used to connect the Dispoal Bins to the primary Disposal Pipeline.
Before I explain, the Disposal Pipeline connects every single Disposal Bin to a main Pipeline which extends all the way to the Cargo Bay. The point of this is so there is only a single pipeline extending to Cargo and not 50 individual pipelines for every single Disposal Bin.
The concept of using the Disposal Junction's is simple, you need to look at the sprite arrows to indicate which direction any items entering it will go.
In this image, anything entering from the left or bottom side will go right. You need to look at the biggest arrow to indicate which direction any item will go that enters the Junction.
I hope this helps.

Re: I need help mapping
Those are sorting junctions, normal junctions are grey. Sorting junctions route tagged packages. Items entering from downstream of the pipe that have the same ID as the pipe junction will be send perpendicularly and pop out whichever bin the pipe is connected to; there should only be one.

Re: I need help mapping
What are some good resources for learning mapping from scratch? I am considering taking it up so that metastation doesn't fall completely apart. Unless someone else has started updating it?

Re: I need help mapping
The guide on the wiki is unfortunately terribly lacking in covering almost all aspects. A lot of working with the map maker is trial and error, and being taught by other mappers who have finally learned how things work. Come on over to IRC to get some better and much faster responses for this though.
Also metastation isn't currently out of date for anything? Maybe the windows not being fulltile but everything else seems to work fine.

Re: I need help mapping
Nah it is kinda screwed. Anywhere with disposals pipes is full of spare pipe segments, including stuff like the xenobio pens. Also A lot of places are missing tables since the table overhaul, including the bar and library. Plus we just have not gotten some of the updates like slot machines, and we have a damn casino in our bar. Although now it seems we are probably going to be getting asteroid station more permanently now. I thought i loved metastation. but i think it might just be that i fucking hate boxstation, and asteroid is real cool

Re: I need help mapping
Regarding Metastation, I dont' know if someone has done it yet, but it needs to have donkies atmos map fixer run on it to fix most of the atmos/pipe related issues.
