Imperator: Rome
Apparently this is a thing now.
New grand strategy from paradox.
Reviews are mixed.
Based on other releases it might be worth playing in 2 years.

It looks neat
That's about it as far as I can tell
Seems to be pretty shallow so it's probably just a DLC platform without the DLC

So it's your standard paradox game?XSI wrote:Seems to be pretty shallow so it's probably just a DLC platform without the DLC
I bought it mostly for the preorder skin because I am a sucker. I'll play it once the 1.1.1 patch comes out but chances are it's going to be shallow until a year later

Got to wait for DLC to implement/fix things that should have been in from the get-go for it really to be worthwhile.

Re: Imperator: Rome
Nah I told myself I would never play fresh paradox releases and this policy has served me well so far.
I’m waiting for their first 1.1 major patch and the inevitable 1.1.1 hotfix patch for the patch. THEN I’ll give it a shot
Director Johan said this won’t happen until June, so June it will be

Absolute state of paradox development studios lmao
Leech fucking company slices up their content and releases it with 10-20% as “free updates” and the rest as paid dlc. Thank god DLC unlockers exist or id never give a single cent to these cocksuckers.

For the 60 bucks I spend I probably get more hours of gametime than anything else..

All paradox games are bad until at least 3 dlcs have been released.
Except for HoI IV which is still rather poor and is on it's fourth dlc.

They cut out so much complexity from Hoi3 in Hoi4, only in the newest DLC did they finally decide to add fuel back in as a consumable resource.

Stellaris isn't bad now, they fixed the worst of the shoddy machanisms. The biggest issue now is the dogshit AI they barely adapted to the new systems

blame it on the clausewitz engine, at this point it's become paradox's creative engine where they just let the modders do the work for them

It's a good strategy. Bethseda does well with that approach, until they release something modders can't fix because it's online.Kraso wrote:blame it on the clausewitz engine, at this point it's become paradox's creative engine where they just let the modders do the work for them

True, but Stellaris' gets to the point where you can't even continue playing. I can at least finish a campaign in EU4 or Vicy2.Vile Beggar wrote:every new paradox game has that exact problem and they never bother to fix itTehSteveo wrote:and the lag that pops up mid to late game.Ikarrus wrote:Stellaris isn't bad now, they fixed the worst of the shoddy machanisms. Re: Imperator: Rome
Playing a Stellaris campaign now after a long break
I never would have thought I would miss Sectors, but the micromanagement of the new system-- while I appreciate how much more in depth and simulationist it is-- is all the more reason why we need to be able to automate certain administrative units of our empire. But they gutted the controls we once had over sectors and made them even more micro-necessary by removing their internal economies.

Re: Imperator: Rome
To be fair, the idea of having to make an AI for these game is scary to me.
It's really complex, like a chessboard the size of a building, and there's a lot more pieces and other layers stacked on top of each other.

Re: Imperator: Rome
honestly the AI being sucky doesn't really matter to me that much, i do enjoy crushing everyone around me, as long as they're able to fight half decently that's good enough for meleibniz wrote:To be fair, the idea of having to make an AI for these game is scary to me.

Re: Imperator: Rome
It's not the quality of AI I have a problem with, it's the micromanagement involved in the latest version of Stellaris. You used to be able to just throw new territories into a sector and have the AI manage it but the new one, although it's entirely optional now, requires a lot more clicking and attention to deal with if you actually DO want to use it. Gone are the controls to allow space constructions and re-development and you need to constantly feed them resources in 1k increments or they do absolutely nothing.

Johan apparently felt so bad about the launch of the game that he locked himself in a room and worked until he could put out a beta that removes Mana two months earlier than everyone expected

Monarch power has been removed as a concept. Instead mechanics have been changed to happen over time, use other currencies or opportunity cost. A new currency, Political Influence, is now generated by loyal members of your Government over time. Political Influence will be used to perform actions directly relating to your country's government such as selecting National Ideas or implementing Laws.
