Sus note peanut
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=31116
Will Sticky somehow relate this note to the failings of capitalism? Is this a clever plot to sabotage Kieth's campaign? Will Kieth use this to whip the players into a frenzy? Find out more on the next episode of /tg/station!

Re: Sus note peanut
I don't think anyone is really in a position to enforce someone's rp. Rp doesn't have to be 80 paragraphs long, in my eyes rp can be a simple point to another player! I've used sus for years now with no issue I stand by the fact that is does not detract from my rp.

classic admin REFUSING to take a side in a CLEARCUT case of a bad note
sus is short for suspicious. people say it IRL even, with no relation to the meme. if it isn't used with relation to the meme it shouldn't be an issue imo

this is the motd
seems like it was fair use•Over utilizing any flavor of the month meme, like "imposter" or "sus" is a bit too OOC IC. Obviously if you have a reason to use them, like calling someone suspicious with sus its fine. However blurting them out at random is a bit much and we're cracking down on it.

OOC in IC is a thing but this ain't it, chief. I don't think this warranted a note at all.

Re: Sus note peanut
I can only guess that not much thought was put into the wording of the MOTD statement, and now it’s naturally causing confusion (you can dispute what qualifies as “random” use here). Remove the note and change the MOTD so that it reflects sticky’s enforcement, because really I think it’s a very fair line for him to draw, especially when combatting stuff that is/ can be ingrained in culture like this.

saying sus was never against the rules and I remember head admins at the time telling that when that motd announcement was made because people kept spamming sus amogus, it's flavour of the month bullshit to say sus every 30 seconds but when you're using it legitimately how is it ooc in ic, you need some burgers to boost your intellectual power sticky

Re: Sus note peanut
Among us didn't invent 'sus', it just memed it, certainly was used long before that game. A little google research will validate that. Using it as a stand alone word is super contextual in the same way I randomly pipe up "weird" in response to events around me.
The same contextual / lack of contextual problems occur around things like *clap and *scream, there's many a time where these emotes are perfectly valid, and then there's the player who is randomly going around venting emotes and catchphrases for no relatable reason.

I agree with what Timber's saying in the closing notes, but I feel like this is more an "ahelp and discuss" thing than worth a note. We should do what we can to enforce a baseline RP experience on even the LRP servers, but this isn't exactly some immersion-breaking bullshit if you ask me. It's stupid, but not that stupid.

Edit: Timberpoes's stance on this is worrying, though. Just the word 'sus' in appropriate context isn't even close to as bad as he says it is.

Re: Sus note peanut
I hear people say sus with basically zero context on a daily basis. Not about to put on my rose tinted glasses for the past because I was born before the year 2000 and damn everyone else because I'm outdated even if I don't quite 'get it'. For real its not even flavor of the month if its been around for years.
I guess you aren't roleplaying if you are using modern slang you have to talk like a nobleman from the 1600's only.
Its just the age old cyclical gripe that every generation has, you'll find me standing on my lawn yelling at kids that get too close to my house when walking on the public sidewalk.

Neither the LRP nor MRP servers actually have any rules about role-playing. It's technically optional on both servers as long as you're not ock icking.
The only way admins can actually do anything about RP standards on either ruleset when players tell you to get bent is through the headmins allowing it.

Re: Sus note peanut
'Tot' is NRP.
I think the note's worthwhile because you chucked it back in a mods face when you're asked to do something relatively simple for the games atmosphere. This isn't a note about you saying sus, it's about you basically saying "I don't have to RP because it's not ruining anyone's RP." I think everyone swinging for you under the flag that saying 'Sus' once ad-hoc is not NRP is completely missing the point, which is on brand.
And before anyone has another freezing cold take about this, I'll make a bet:
I will paypal you 20.00 USD if you have a single fully written roleplay interaction in your last 3 rounds where you actually try to write something vaguely IC, consecutively and coherently.

Why is there an issue with how it's used here? I don't understand.

Re: Sus note peanut
Alright this sort of talk has been coming up over and over again and it's starting to get ridiculous.
How is "tot," "revs," "ling," etc., NRP?
Is me saying "traitor" instead of "tot" roleplay? How do you even use the term "roleplay" for a single word? It's mind-boggling. I thought roleplay was, yknow, acting out a character to some degree and pretending you're that character with that job - who declared that roleplay extended to saying a full-length word instead of an abbreviation (an abbreviation which isn't text-speech, mind you)?
Very irritating to see all these references to "NRP." "Tot" isn't fuckin' NRP, it's literally just a slightly faster way of saying "traitor," because anyone who's played this game some length of time knows that "tot" = "traitor," it's a shorthand. No different from how "perp" is shorthand for "perpetrator." Get real.

Re: Sus note peanut
"The HoP has an emag!" is NRP. For LRP you have to say "The Head of Personnel is in possession of a cryptographic sequencer!"

Re: Sus note peanut
My Hot Tot take is that "Tot" isn't NRP, it's just like... some Cockney Rhyming Slang bullshit. The only iffy part is that it relies on "Traitor" being an IC term, but we can easily say that much like Nuke Ops, Wizards, Changelings, etc., the antag type (and formerly the game mode) is probably named for what they're commonly called IC, not the other way around, and nobody can really argue it because lore doesn't address it.
So yeah, Traitor > Tator > Tot is fine and obviously materially different from someone yelling ";Amogus!!" in response to a callout of a changeling.

I don't care about sus
I don't care about tot
But if you spin-flip-clap in front of me, I treat it IC like you just flipped me off.

The spacegods blessed us with the abilities to flip, to spin, and to clap
And in our simpleminded decadence and debauchery, we spit in their faces by doing all of them at once
