Space/Marine Law

Unread postby CosmicScientist » Sat Aug 04, 2018 12:03 am #431080

>knowing the laws besides valid/not valid
At least DMCAcode doesn't have the same problem as tgcode, there will be enough time to arrest criminals and to consult a tribunal.

Our IC laws:

Resisting arrest
Drug possession
Indecent exposure
Vandalism
Trespass

Assault
Pick pocketing
Narcotics distribution
Possession of a weapon
Rioting
Creating a workplace hazard
Petty theft
Breaking and entry
Insubordination

Assault With a Deadly Weapon
Assault of an Officer
Manslaughter
Possession of a Restricted Weapon
Possession of Explosives
Inciting a Riot
Sabotage
Theft
Major Trespass
B&E of a Restricted Area
Dereliction of Duty

Murder
Sexual Assault
Attempted Murder
Mutiny
Grand Sabotage
Grand Theft
Enemy of the Corporation

Holy fuck we have a lot of laws.

Their IC laws:

Resisting Arrest

Improper Equipment Usage
Unauthorized Weapon
Damage to Government Property
Prevarication
Hooliganism
Trespassing
Insubordination
Intoxication
Contraband (drugs, any irregular equipment)
Theft

Disorderly Conduct
Neglect of duty
Assault
Manslaughter
Assault with a deadly weapon
Interfering with an arrest
Jailbreak/Escape
Sexual assault
Murder or Unauthorized Execution
Sedition

Their brig timers are longer, as are their rounds, e.g. shenanigans (hooliganism) can be given 10 minutes maximum, 5 minimum. I assume these would be an IC suggestion similar to space law's entry on the wiki, that enforcement is down to the players and admin intervention is in the result of unfair punishment. I also assume longer brig times (30 minutes/permabrig) would be best to be reduced or replaced with different punishment.

I don't know how CM admins approach the quite frequent req. line grenades and briefing misfires but I would hope if the players involved calm down that it could go through the IC law process, provided it's not a repeat occurrence, accident or not.

I don't really see much point in changing to space law. Most of the items are covered and condensed under a single law and DMCAcode doesn't have traitors/revs to deal with.
Go appreciate Nienhaus.

That's spesslaw. Muhrenes lawfully can't have weapons above their station. Probably so there isn't guncargo a req. officer armed to the gills or an MP with a rocket launcher.

Add this to the military police rule

Unread postby fosstar » Fri Aug 24, 2018 8:27 pm #434901

Change the rule from
Code: Select all
The Chief MP should never commit any crimes in Space Law, but can choose to not punish Minor Crimes done by other players. The MPs should never commit any crimes in space law that have a victim, nor ignore that kind of crime.

to
Code: Select all
The Chief MP should never commit any crimes in Space Law, but can choose to not punish Minor Crimes done by other players. The MPs should never commit any crimes in space law that have a victim, nor ignore that kind of crime. This rule will only be enforced on MPs when there is no IC punishment available, and as long as you act in good faith and don't attempt to ruin the experience of others you will have a lot of leeway.

I would assume play nice and admins won't think you're bad is an unspoken rule of good natured life, especially when that winds up with less players ahelping against you for the obvious cause and effect.

The part that might be worth a debate is the IC/OOC punishment thing. I assume admins only need or want to step in when OOC punishment is going to happen.

This one still needs to be discussed. We've agreed on needing a different sort of lawset than both /tg/'s Space Law and CM's Marine Law, more in the line of adapting /tg/'s lawset to fit the marine environment. The overall vision should be to handle little IC issues while not punishing players severely and removing them from the round for tens of minutes at a time and should have the least amount of opportunities to abuse it for both the MPs and the marines as possible.

So far we've only received one proposal for a new marine law by Loorey so if you have any comments regarding it, they are greatly appreciated: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11z4SMz3oa9_J_fM_LsHrgtgikmhOgoKweY9kgvj2Hy8
