Baldur's Gate 3

Post by Bepis » #696914

Anyone else looking forward to BG3? I've done full playthroughs of (mostly) all classes, BG1 to Throne of Bhall. Looking forward to the next entry in the series, even if it's not the same look et cetera. Digging the fact that Minsc and Jaheria can be party members, hopefully they're not too shoehorned into the plot.

I was a bit put-off by the gay bear sex marketing, but a friend of mine who somehow missed that picked it up and streamed it for a few hours in one of our regular discord calls and it piqued my interest, so I'll pick it up when it does full release.

i played the game for 3 hours and already know shadowheart is my future wife

very nervous about the game

the first act will be absolute perfection as its had years of playtesting and tuning, but i have a bad feeling the remaining acts will be drastically reduced in quality as theyve likely had very little QC

This is basically what happened with Divinity 2 iirc. I came to the game late but my friends I did coop with talked about how rough it was in the later acts for this exact reason

yeah, don't get me wrong, it was still a REALLY good game, but it did fall apart towards the end. it wasnt BAD, it was decent, but it could have been better

i'm actually really excited to go back and play it while ACTUALLY ROLE PLAYING, same with BG3

most rpgs throughout my life ive just strived to be the best and strongest and have the best build and make the best choices

gonna use what ive learned from ss13 and /tg/ to do it right this time

Oh yeah I fucking loved Divinity 2. It was really special to play it with my friends. A really unique experience.

Also I killed all 3 of them in a single turn in the final bout to become the Divine as Fane. Restoration of the Eternals.

I'm probably going to play custom in BG3. I played one of the named characters in Divinity because it really seemed like one of the pillars of the whole game to play it through the lens of one of those characters.

That's basically how all Larian games go. Act 1 is perfect, Act 2 is Really good but seems like its missing something, Act 3 is kinda mid and a lot more challenging and time-wasty. Act 4 wraps it up and you're kinda left confused as you kinda assumed that there'd be a lot more game.

What they did in divinity is basically patch in like an extra 5 hours of gameplay a month after release.

Should, but I sure as hell am not going to wait.

I'm a bit pissed because I can't preload it and they advised to uninstall the early access version for a clean install, and 122gb is going to be rough on my dogshit mountain internet

in the same way that more powerful hardware has made game dev cut corners in profiling and efficiency (I'm not blaming game devs directly here, I'm saying that management looked at it and said "we're not allocating resources to make this run better") it's probably been accepted at a high level that "the internet speeds of major metrpolitan areas can handle it and storage is cheap" so it's not a problem they want to solve.

the only time I've accepted it as an excuse was Titanfall 1, because that was some fucked up cross-generational game (x360/xb1) and they did not have the processing overhead to include an audio decoder in the engine because it was so running so close to the edge so they shipped it with fucking 35gb of uncompressed audio

I've been getting random CTD's every so often, could have been a driver issue. Still in Act I with both games, but I like how much they changed the script that I need to pay attention

i started it last night! i like it a lot! the RNG feels very fair & failing often ends up being very funny. it feels very much just like playing D&D. i like the character creation a lot though! i think the MC constantly does the smoulder face though
i really wish there was an 'undo' button, though, because i very frequently click to switch to another character, and then my character spends all their movement and can't do anything. i'll get used to it though!

There's enough slight rule changes here that makes it interesting even as someone who played a shit load of 5e in ttrpg form.

I'm assuming a lot of this is getting into the next edition but if not I'd like to see a D&D 5.5 BG3 edition or something.

Barb unarmored defense is different. Monk unarmed damage scaling is faster. Jump and shove in the game are so nicely powerful for enemy placement manipulation. Two short rests per long rest and long rest taking actual resources changes the game.

Quite a few very small tweaks that makes it overall less solved and I like that

TBH I think a lot of the changes are more just "to make sure you have more to do on your turn" and "because in a video game we can give you more shit without worrying about how it inflates turn times".
I wouldn't expect to see bonus action jumps (and good god, it feels like 1 in every 3 movements taken by anyone is a jump in this game) any time soon.
