Description of what happened:

I was trying to clone someone when genetics kept tell me to fuck off (they were refusing to clone anyone), then threatens to monkey me once I break in to clone a guy.

I had to stay because the guy in question was the captain who tried to murder all the lizards. Then, they attempt to monkey me (They clearly admit they were trying to do so) for simply using their cloner. I disarmed and tazed cooper and stabbed him with his own DNA injector. He tried to keep attacking me as a monkey, then his friend re-humaned him. I made it clear that I just wanted him to let me do my job and secure the criminal-captain and would not bother him.

The brig was blown out and the station is in all but code red at this point. Plasma flooding, bombs, breaches, many dead. I asked the admin if I had leeway with him, then they said yes, then I spaced him, etc. I got banned for spacing him and accused of "being manipulative" with my questions. Whatever. But if what I did deserves a day ban, his actions of attemping to monkey me during and emergency and refusing to let me in (we had no previous interaction) simply because "lel shitcurity" is ridiculous. If I'm going to get hit with daybans and have my hands tied while playing security, then people shouldn't be allowed to "FAK U SHITCURITY" and put me in a situation where I have no choice than they deserve a ban as well to discourage this type of behavior. What was I supposed to do? My option was first abandon a body of a dangerous criminal or break in (they refused to clone or open the door), then my option was to totally ignore that this guy was trying to monkey me or kill him (brig was filled with plasma). If he puts me in this impossible situation, he deserves a ban as well.

In the future, I will not space anyone as a non-antag no matter what but I'm not exactly sure what the rules are anymore.

Further, I'd like to say that claiming I "manipulated" the admin to say yes though some sneaky trick is just off the wall silly:

I clearly attempted to de-escalate and he attempted to escalate at every possible turn until I had no choice but to arrest him.


Why they should be banned:

They put me in a position where had to walk away and not clone someone, then in a position where I had to ignore the fact they were trying to stab me with a DNA injector, then in a position I had to let them free or kill them all during a hectic round. He also get his fellow medbay workers to join in and attack me.

As much as I enjoy playing security I doubt I ever will again. This is the second time I got booted on the server for killing someone who crossed the line, escalated with me and ignored every attempt at de-escalation. Playing security has become a game of figuring out which admins will let you go how far and you're basically assumed to be a validhunter. The only way you can be safe from bans is to just run away which then puts the entire station in danger.

Well in this case it's shitty because after a few weeks of focusing on school/sports I now have the time for a couple days to fuck around before finals but I'm banned for half of it. As to the ban request, I'm going to maintain that because they took no actual harmful action towards you, they don't deserve a ban. The situation was resolved in game to a reasonable standard until they were spaced. There are no logs of them actually ever hitting you with anything so they technically didn't do anything wrong.

If they received a ban it would set a terrible precedent: That moving towards someone with something dangerous belies the same intent as actually hitting people with them. This is impossible to effectively log and enforce, and simply doesn't make sense.

If they didn't actually do anything wrong, then they didn't do anything wrong. We cannot ban based on possibilities. This is a reason why succumbing in most cases makes the complaint far less valid, because we cannot make assumptions about whether they would have taken you to medbay. A similar rule applies here.

This sets a very bizarre precedent where you can get banned for removing a griefer from the round where as if you'd adminhelped they'd be removed from the server.

Having to roll over and let them grief you so the admins will ban them instead of you is a shitty and meta way of playing the game.

But it sounds like your mind is made up so no point in arguing forever.

Could you at least tell us what the proper procedure with a dangerous prisoner is if the brig doesn't exist though? I'd rather not get stuck in the same situation myself.

Killing someone because you failed to pack cuffs is one thing, but not having anywhere to put them is a whole other matter, SoS put stupid fucking constraints on officers because he had a stick in his ass about them too, I'm not sure security can survive another person in a position of power on this server who cannot see past the normal playerbase view of security.

If you don't want the job done, have the coders remove the job, don't gimp and complicate it till anyone you would want playing it won't fucking play it.

That moving towards someone with something dangerous belies the same intent as actually hitting people with them. This is impossible to effectively log and enforce, and simply doesn't make sense.

So from what I read from the logs, the Geneticist was going out of his way to NOT do his job of cloning people, as well as charging and threatening to kill and/or monkey anyone (including Security) if they attempt to enter his department to do his job that he is failing to do.

Skipping everything else that happened (The whole part of the Geneticist attacking and buckling the Officer) the Head of Security, leaves the station and transfers authority to a ambiguous third party (Red Lizard Guy). So at this point the HoS has willingly given away his power for a while and can no longer fully assess the situation.

Imo I honestly think the Officer in question, the OP, was simply doing what he thought was best at the time. With the Brig and Perma Brig compromised and vented/toxic he was left with no real options. He could not risk leaving someone who has demonstrated clear hostile/lethal intent somewhere that is no secure but there is no where secure to put him.

The Geneticist had it coming, and the ban against the OP was erroneously placed.

From the perspective of Space Law, the Geneticist did as follows:

- 301 - Assault with a deadly weapon (monkeying someone = just as bad as, if not worse than, murdering them. Attempted murder is also a possible charge.) - 5 minutes
- 302 - Assault of an Officer (ditto, plus disarming and punching) - 5 minutes
- 307 - Sabotage (refusing to clone the huge pile of bodies - a charge for Mutiny would be possible, if a little odd) - 5 minutes
- 210 - Breaking and entering (indirect; the SO had to smash the windows because of him) - 2 minutes

That's seventeen minutes, not including the charge for attempted murder. Put Mutiny in there (for refusing to clone the Captain, and assaulting Security) and it's seventeen minutes with a capital crime. I've always believed, should an execution be lawful (i.e. a possible punishment under the law) but unauthorised by the Captain/HoS/Warden (in that order), that it's an IC issue (that is, something the HoS/Captain should handle)?
