One having to keep him alive and the other having to kill him seems pretty one sided, since it is trivially easy to kill simplemobs permanently. Because of how a steal objective would likely work (a check to see if Ian is on the shuttle or escape pods at round end) it is not really easy to determin...

How'd they ban-bait with pets?

Also, there's more pets in the game now than back when the Ian's Meat goal was a thing, I think it's worth reconsidering. I don't think there's a sloth crate yet so it'd force traitors to actually traitor it up.

I always thought the 50 minerals per stack limit was a balance thing. If you can carry more, then a single engineer can fix any problem, as he's got basically unlimited supplies on him. A dump all function on the ore machine would be nice though.
