Bleeding out is terrible.

Post by Helios » #138745

Bleeding out is more terrible then dying. Today and 3 days ago I bled out in game, it took 16 minutes 3 days ago, and 14 minutes today. During this time I was unable to whisper like if I was in crit to die immediately, so I could be cloned. The only way to stop staring at a black screen for 15 minutes was for me to ghost, and stop myself from every playing that round again.
Can we make it so that bleeding out isn't literally worse than death please?

If you're in crit from bleeding out you should be able to ghost out so you die. If you can't use the ghost verb to die then that's a bug that needs to be reported on github.

From a balance perspective, holy shit dude, bleeding on /tg/ is seriously weak shit. Have you ever played on Lifeweb or Paradise or any other server that doesn't have their people be just sacks that health is beaten out of? On Hippie in particular, basically any kind of damage will cause a minor amount of bleeding, so whether it's a punch in the arm or a spiked baseball bat to the head, you're gonna be taking damage. This really means the difference against antags too since they'll eventually bleed out without a medkit.

Getting stuck in a low-blood state is awful though.

Especially if you get those doctors that have no fucking clue how to fix it and you need to either explain how between bouts of consciousness or do it yourself

TL;DR: Relying on others to do anything for you is awful and should be avoided

I'm saying it's weak compared to the other servers which have a not bags-of-health medical system we have.

Also seriously report the ghosting thing to github, it's a really serious bug that needs to be reported.

it's not a bug, the early stages of bleeding out can leave you unconscious but not in crit. It's being in crit that allows ghosting, not being unconscious.

Iron in your system is probably the fastest way outside of blood bags or donors to regenerate blood.
Besides that it does regenerate but at a pace slower then a sloth taking a shit

I love the idea of bleeding out, but I feel like the system needs to be reworked. Add a new, invisible type of damage that causes bleeding, and make sharp things cause it. Being stabbed with a screwdriver should cause light bleeding, and being shot should cause severe bleeding.

That's what Hippie and to some extent Paradise does and it's a good system. What we do is cause bleeding based on a threshold of damage on specific limbs and it kinda sucks.

So if I make a pull request that removes all of medbay and replaces it with a few self serve vending machines of all the meds, you'd support it?

No because if you do that then someone else will get to steal all of the patches before I break in to do it.

the thing about the bleeding system as it is right now is that if your in a situation where a limb has taken enough damage to start bleeding or you've got something embeded (read: this almost always means an explosion) you're probably in dire enough straights that you won't live to see significant blood loss anyways.

Pap ported bleeding right before they got banana'd, so now that they're kinda back maybe they'll clean it up.

Maaaaaaaaaaybe.

works okay for me, occasionally someone tries to give me the wrong blood, and there never seems to be adequate default supplies.

What happens if someone gets bad blood? I always use o- and I check the med records for people with it and drain then dry when they go brain dead or pump then full of morphine when they ask for a sleeper and get it that way

The rate at which blood regens naturally is just way too slow.

No because you'd bundle something else with it.

My argument stems from the desire to be able to do anything yourself, and being knocked unconscious prevents you from remedying the situation without outside support.
If bleeding out was crippling, but not incapacitating, that'd be fine by me.

Nothing is worse than getting stuck in a knocked out state. You ghost, you're out of the round 5evr because you're technically still alive, and if you wait, you're out of the round(Without being able to see anything but "YOU CAN ALMOST HEAR SOMEONE TALKING" ad infinitum) until someone does something.
Which could take ten+ minutes, and in an average round that's 1/6th the time on station.

Do you even play the server?

Also bleeding out is fine, I'd argue the medical system could do with a bit more depth but that's just my opinion man.

yes, you gotta use wirecutters on bedsheets. they last a pathetically short time, though.
it's stupidly situational but has helped me survive scenarios like surviving a nuke op raid on the brig, then bandaging myself by making bandages with wirecutters from some dead assistant's toolbelt and a bedsheet from a brig cell. would be nice if you could cut up jumpsuits to make bandages, too.

glass shards also make guaze. and yea, its far too situational. should be able to cut up lots more stuff into guaze, like your jumpsuit.
