Oh god no, that's most certainly not the case in general.leibniz wrote:More content means more fun.
I think the way Goonstation solves this is by having everyone get the traitor item of their job + one from a random other job. I sort of missed the obvious solution in my previous post, whoops

Re: Fungal Tuberculosis is something else
Job specific traitor items give your job away yet are seriously useful, more so than items that can be bought by any traitor.
At least that's how it is on goon. Also that they can be found in the crates that take all of your TC.

Re: Fungal Tuberculosis is something else
Job specific tator items 'giving you away' implies you leaving them lying around for people to find, or release viro exclusive traitor virus/botanist exclusive killer cabbage etc and sticking around at your job to get caught.
I don't see the problem here, especially conidering most jobs have more than one slot on top of that.

Meant for things like clown, where roundstart slot space is one.

Well yeah, for jobs like the Clown, the clown had the clown car. Now I don't know if any of you have ever actually experienced the horror known as the Clown Car, but it is a murderous honkstrosity of horrific proportions. When you spawn that thing in you ARE NOT GOING TO BE QUIET. You are going out to hit and kidnap as many people with your car as possible before driving directly into a gibber/the singularity. Getting caught isn't really something you worry about when you spawn that shit in.

The powergame thing now is to keep internals running all round. I really don't blame anyone. It spreads quickly and unless medbay organizes (good luck for a light to no RP server) the whole crew gets it within 5 minutes.

Re: Fungal Tuberculosis is something else
I like a lot of goon's job specific items, the only definitely bad one I know of is the now-removed toolbox of doom known as His Grace (Chaplain), a super weapon that gained strength with every victim you stuffed into it as well as buffing the wielder, eventually even gaining a door-shattering meteor effect when thrown. Worst of all the more it was fed, the hungrier it got, forcing the wielder to constantly murder or else they too would be eaten. Anyone who picked up the box was also compelled to murder.
This almost always resulted in an unending massacre as the weapon changed hands, or worse, a tryhard taking down the chaplain early and singlehandedly murdering the entire station

That sounds hilarious.
I really see no reason to not have job specific items, considering that would be optional (I presume?) anyway.

Yeah His Grace was hilarious. At first. It eventually turned every round into turbo-toolbox-murder The Game and wore thin.

Hell you could make the job-specific items available to every traitor, but at double the cost if they are not the right job class. So you could frame people!lumipharon wrote:That sounds hilarious.

...but yeah, we have needed job specific traitor items for a long time now. Im sure we have several archived threads full of item suggestions, its just no coder felt like actually doing the work.

Traitor items were glorious and it was a brilliant way to make less robust jobs more equal at traitoring while making powerful items on the menu not be present EVERY SINGLE ROUND.
Also it brought the resplendent glory of the port-a-poo.

Wait was the idea to lock the items behind a specific job slot? Wouldn't it make more sense and be less meta to have the objects available to all traitors but just job specific in function?Alex Crimson wrote:Hell you could make the job-specific items available to every traitor, but at double the cost if they are not the right job class. It's fun when you get Virus box in surplus crate, along revolver and some ammo. Then you can walk around putting people out of their misery.

Re: Fungal Tuberculosis is something else
That point is so silly they still have generic traitor items so it is a choice, the botanist can choose to go for generic esword 2000 or his own better chainsaw. Not that virologist if they had a specific out of the box death plague would really work for this as the guy who released it just had perfect wind up to disable all the virology machines yay.
Who the hell manages a perfect disguise otherwise, tries to kill someone (if it isn't a direct weapon why are you pulling it out in company?), is disarmed of the weapon, remembered to have fingerprint proof gloves too hope those weren't from your department, runs away from a lost fight without bleeding, and despite obviously being disguised already returns to their job after dropping a job specific weapon?
Like I think I remember one of the points against job specific items I got out of someone once was that oh no my coworker could also be a traitor use it and get me as a unlikely second traitor in the same job in trouble! Alas cruel fate!

Uhh guys job specific traitor items are completely off topic. Please take it to another thread so this one can go back to focusing on the virus itself.

Fungal tbc is just so much more powerful than anything you can make in viro.
Why do we tone down bombs traitors can buy so they are less powerful than what scientists can make, but do we give traitors shit thats way more powerful than what the viro can make even with unlimited resources and unlimited time?

Viro really needs to be less of a shitty annoyance and more deadly but apparently the code is ancient and shit and HG wanted to remove it entirely so i cannot see that happening short of a total overhual

Eh should still be in the game. Just not a generic traitor item.
Maybe if progression ling comes back they can have it, keeping it with nukes for now would enable siege type release and recall approaches instead of dakka blitz. Maybe I dunno viruses are cool purge the weak.

Re: Fungal Tuberculosis is something else
the other day i was viro and this virus got out while i was distributing my healing viruses. i caught it in front of cryo and the second i had it i scanned myself and saw it was stage one, and ran to the medivend just five steps to the east. i vended spaceacillin and the other thing and popped the pill and was about to inject the spaceacillin when i started puking and passing out and was chainstunned for about five minutes before i could create a cure, despite going to treat the virus the second i got it. by the time i was handing out cures, most of the crew was already dead, especially around medbay.
