After getting Shadowling and Abduction, the station's faced with another new threat: the Nanopocolypse.

This gamemode is currently a WIP on our Github, led by sawu-tg.

This game mode, in comparison to the last two, has gone surprisingly unnoticed by the community, so I've made this thread to both spread awareness and give feedback.

Description of how it works, lifted from the Git page:

The aim of the Nanopocolypse game mode is to escape the station alive.

Adds a Nanoswarm NPC that consumes everything it comes into contact with
Nanoswarms have the following abilities:
1) They replace floor tiles they meet with their own nano-flooring
2) They consume power from SMES, APCs and cables
3) They consume stacks of objects (ie metal) to upgrade themselves.
4) They make machines and electronics malfunction via emagging
5) All humans they meet can be infected with an evil nanovirus, transforming them into psychotic cyborgs.
6) They consume food and multiply, spreading the power evenly between themselves.
Nanoswarms can be combatted by the following procedures:

A full-body protective suit, like a hardsuit, that exposes no flesh will prevent them from infecting you.
EMP devices are especially effective against them, so load up on them.
Disabling power in the area they are in will prevent them from becoming stronger
Remove and store all food carefully so they do not multiply.
Stem their flow by isolating them in containers, or surrounding them with Reinforced walls.
Seek out the hives as soon as possible, and use EMP devices to destroy them (they are impervious to most other forms of harm).
Essentially, the mode creates NPC entities called Nanoswarms that proceed to eat, destroy, and corrupt everything they come into contact with. They can corrupt humans to turn them into evil cyborgs.
The goal is to stay alive.

Update:
"A number of things changed, but this is now merge ready.
Players no longer converted into controllable robots, instead a tiny chance to spawn evil robot NPCs from them on hit.
"Overlords" are chosen at the start of the game to control a hive each."

"the goal is to stay alive" seems pretty boring. Seeing red tiles will just be an auto shuttle call. Then 10 minutes of sitting in escape whilst idiots try to fight the horde.

It's blob but 100x harder you need emps which you can't get until post 20 minutes after roundstart most of the time

My experience is that NPC antags work better as rare events than round types and there's really no reason this couldn't just be a late game event.

It would make more sense if people transformed into npcs rather than the main nanodude being the npc? We don't turn people into controlled blob zombies and that is a good thing.

A survival mode where people join the opposition is basically meteor but with weird design.

Or the progenitor original is a player and the splits are npcs? It sounds nightmarish in the current state and trying to fight it mostly helps it and might get you banned if it looks like you WANTED to be borged?

WHAT the module of the nanoborgs is straight syndicate module? That's bonkers they have grenade launchers! I was more right than I thought this will degenerate into everything exploding!

I think it should convert people into NPCs instead. Or maybe only produce a borg rarely. Having to fight one syndicate borg for every single person that gets converted seems outright impossible. Even fighting regular borgs might be impossibly difficult considering how dangerous the environment becomes.

shouldn't this thread be in ideas? this sub-form is for implemented content. also this doesn't have much player input on its core antagonist, but turns players into antags which might be sought for a griff licens. basicly your fighting an AI enemy that recruits players as power-griffin cyborg things right? it just seems like a blob flavor unless you give them a harvester objective to bring everyone to it.

I put this topic here as PRs that are currently being evaluated sometimes go here (such as the stunprod removal PR), but if board moderators feel it more appropriate to move this to the Ideas forum, that's cool.

Still not a big fan of it. Id rather have some kind of Replicator copy where you play a some kind of hivemind and control an army of small spider-like machine robots. Then order them to slowly eat the station and spawn more Replicators. A round ender like Xenos.

Having a game mechanic that turns someone into a nigh unstoppable death bot just by them walking up to it naked is terrible game design.
I really shouldn't have to explain why.

That has been taken out already. Hives are player directed now and the spawns are npcs. Odd design to even consider tho, with naked being anything but the most elite and cumbersome full body suits.
