Mining Hardsuit and Goliath Plates

Post by Zilenan91 » #112935

Applying goliath plates to your mining hardsuit should apply the melee damage resistance to the whole suit. It never really made sense logically how applying plates to the chest didn't upgrade the helmet along with it considering the helmet comes out of the suit like all other hardsuits, and it's also incredibly annoying to hunt down a whole ten goliaths just to get a spaceworthy riot suit with slowdown, much less five just to fully upgrade one of the parts of your hardsuit. As it stands right now, it's usually better to just use a whole three goliath plates to get a ripley even though it's less robust due to how much utility it'll add to you, and it's also incredibly stupid how you need just three goliath plates to put into an entire mech whereas you need 10 just to upgrade your crummy suit.

tl;dr applying goliath plates to the chest of your mining hardsuit should upgrade the whole thing, not just your chest and limbs as it stands currently.

Its a trade off, especially as most people only target head/chest, you can be fukken invincible with augs, plates, jackboots and a few drugs, if you make it easier expect to see miners wrecking everyone.

To be fair, because part of their job actually involves dealing with relatively high damage melee mobs, they should upgrade to the point where they're a walking melee juggernaut.

Augs, Jackboots, sec jumpsuit, mining RIG, HoS cloak.

About as close to complete melee immunity as you can get, I believe, but I'm not sure about the outright numbers.

Plus, I want to have a traitor try to e-sword me again after finishing my suit. His tears where delicious.

Its more that it made sense to plate the helmet back when the helmet was a separate item.

Now that its "built into the suit" it really should just copy the suit. Hell increase the number of plates needed to max it out as long as we get a little consistency.

If the Space helmet pops out of the spacesuit, why would it make sense for it to be also upgraded? This isn't an internal [IE electronics or something] upgrade, this is adding armored plates to the suit.

You can put the plates on the chest fine but putting them on the helmet would make the "ejection" mechanic of the helmet malfunction [AKA you couldn't put the helmet back in the suit, it would remain out until you took off the extras], right? Unless the spacesuit itself was made so that way the helmet could have third-party attachments ofc.

The 3 for a Mech but 10 for the suit is kinda dumb though.

That said yes maybe 10 is a bit much, originally when I designed this feature I compared it to my own rate of killing, which in comparison to the average miner is significantly faster. Could probably knock it down a few.

Logically, if the helmet folds into the suit, any plates applied to the helmet should fall off when retracted, since they can't fit in the suit itself. (But this is why we don't use logic here.)

You cant be immune to damage anymore.
Armour caps out at 90%, even if you get 100% only 90% of it counts.
Yes you can top it up with what is the ridiculous state of chems at the moment, but you're not immune to damage.

True, but needing ten for the entire thing is a bit ridiculous at this point since 3 can cover an entire mining mech whereas you need ten of them to cover your much much smaller suit. I think making both parts needing 3 or the entire thing needing 6 in total would really be a good thing.

Yes you can top it up with what is the ridiculous state of chems at the moment, but you're not immune to damage.

Also yeah what are stuns and cuffs. Even if you're literally Space Jesus and absolutely immortal to melee damage, you're still gonna be as vulnerable as ever to stuns unless you're constantly loaded on stimpacks, and even then I don't know how effective they are with reducing the effectiveness of the stun + cuff combo, and the slowdown is still a huge factor in it as well.

Speaking of slowdown, until the riot suit got buffed to remove the slowdown, almost nobody wore it. This games entire combat system relies on two things, RnG, and stuns. If you can run faster and therefore avoid stuns, you will most likely win said combat. Wearing the hardsuit will make this harder due to slowdown, and even loaded up with stimpacks, I believe you're only slightly slower than normal when wearing the mining hardsuit, and sanicspeed when not.

tl;dr the mining hardsuit isn't that good anymore, it slows you down, and stunning and cuffing are a thing that while mitigated by stimpacks (I don't know how effective they are at mitigating stuns) still rek you like everyone else. Also ranged weapons and touch chems like morphine and other various shit (nerf morphine 2015)

Also as far as I know, mining mobs were made less common a while ago, so maxing the suit isn't as easy as it used to be.

What are you talking about? Maxing it out is rediculously easy modo.

1: Tell science to upgrade the redemption machine to let them (and you) jew harder.
2: deposit 1 bag of ores for x4 XP
3: buy 20 laz injectors with your 5345987324 points
4: farm the same goliath over and over
