Ports the Deep Fryer from NTstation 13.

You can stick in any object, fry it, and eat it. It has 1 nutrient if it is not a reagent container, and if it is a reagent container, it will be the contents of that food item + 1 nutrient.

Can you fry people, or containers? If you fry a backpack full of bombs and eat that, are the bombs now inside you or just gone?

I think the deep fryer should moved somewhere else to keep that table space. I say place it where the food cart is and move the food cart to the backroom.

Its not on the map yet, that's just a demo I prepared. It's gonna be on the map once that PR gets merged and I place it down.

From the PR itself, looks like the bombs would be just gone as soon as you fry the backpack.

I hated it for the ability to permanently and quickly delete items from the game combined with its easy accessibility. If neither has changed it is still shit

This is a fine addition, but the kitchen would need to be harder to get into to prevent powergamers from crying about how you can get rid of items easily.

Or just make it require chef access.

None of those things act against their premise. In fiction, it is normal for wizards to have magic, clowns to slip people, and mimes to make invisible walls. In fact, pretending to do those things is very important for their real life counterparts. It's why they exist, as a form of entertainment.

Deep fryers aren't magical, though. It's like making it possible to microwave anything to make it edible. I mean, sure, it's a bit funny I guess, for a few dozen times. But why? In the end it's a strange addition in terms of balance and it doesn't appear to call back to any appreciable real life or fictional connections. It's just something that makes things edible because it can. I don't question the logic of being able to deep fry anything, or of deep frying to improve the nutritional value of food. I'm just wondering why it needs to make deep fried non-edibles suddenly things that can be destroyed with people's teeth. It's not much less amusing if you can't suddenly chew down bombs as well as fry them.

Eating a deep-fried object should drop the object. That way you can smuggle in an emag to your perma buddy by deep-frying it.

Hmm, what about plasma, would deep frying plasma maybe make it explode after a certain time due to the heat? That might be a neat way to make a ghetto bomb, maybe with a random timer and a chance to go off immediately to stop it being spammed.
You could use buckets to toss boiling oil at people?
Or if it's emaged you could make it spray boiling oil on people who try and use it? Good way to kill the chef if you need him dead as a traitor?

Not at the moment, but I'm looking into this since dunking people's faces in the fryer and then frying them as a meal after they've died sounds perfect. Seeing as the chef already has his gibber, and that can gib alive people, letting the fryer do it too and only to corpses can't be that much of a problem.

Now, I thought about this, but I'm not too certain about it. On one hand it solves the dumb argument of "muh fryer can EASILY DESTROY OBJECTS"(even though it's much easier to space the damn thing), on the other hand it looks weird.

Right now it deletes it, which causes it to respawn elsewhere like normal if it's destroyed/thrown off station.

Thing is, there remains a chance however remote of it being recovered. The only way I know of right now to completely delete an item is via singulo or chaplains incinerator plus soap or cleaner, and neither can be done by any chucklefuck jumping a table

I can count on one hand the amount of times in my nearing 3 years of SS13 that a spaced item has been recovered.

Being able to deep fry anything to turn it into food was extremely dumb the first time - why will it be any different this time?

ALl that happens is the kitchen becomes deepfried paper hutt, and literally nothing else ever gets made, except for deepfried disk/guns/batons/other shit that is important to people and will fuck them off when you somehow eat their active dual e-sword.

Maybe if the simple act of deep frying things is more entertaining than the rest of the the kitchen, we should see that as a sign that the rest of the kitchen is shit and it needs improvement.

Just because people will do what is OBJECTIVELY BETTER (ie: deepfrying paper which is effectively an infinite resource instead of making more time and material consuming items), does not make it entertaining or better, and does not make the rest of the job shit and in need of improvement.
It just makes everything else utterly redundant.

Replace spaced item with body and what does that number look like? They end up at the same spots
On a side note. The objects that you would really want to destroy but can't easily are two things. Positronic brains of shit players who want the person holding the brain dead, or, soulstoned people as a non cultist. Both of these are destroyed by destructive analyst

Well, it matters to me that coders have a reason behind what they're doing. If they can explain their thought behind a process, normally I feel more able to judge it by the coder's intentions.

As far as I can tell this is a dumb gimmick that will be entertaining for a week and then filter out. There's no obvious reason, it's not funny for long, and ultimately it just adds another way to destroy items, only this one doesn't make sense. Maybe adding cooking methods to cookery will make it more fun, but if you're doing that why start with deep fryers and not, say, ovens and pans? As far as I can tell it was popular on Ntstation because the joke didn't have time to wear off.
