References or Original Content

Post by specyalic » #39143

What kind of content do you prefer on the station, more original stuff or references to other things
we have plenty of both, although i have heard that we are more reference crazy than most other servers.

So what do you guys like and/or want more of? OCs(donut steel) or Muh References
[note: not which one is better/worse and refrain from needlessly insulting what you dont like, all in the name of fun]

EDIT:bonus points for anyone who can compile a whole list of references on the station

General references to common tropes of science fiction are good and funny. Specific references are funny too, but not when the whole game is a copy-paste of other media. Space Station 13 is, first and foremost, a parody of the sci-fi genre as a whole.

on the arrival shuttle, I saw the iconic toolbox on the ground. I clubbed myself in the head with it trying to figure out the controls.
Setting the tool box, now bloodied, back on the table; I went to heal myself with a medkit. I clubbed myself in the head with that too.
I've come a long ways from asking how to switch hands.

Tele-man somehow dies and gets its looted by an atmos tech who managed to use it to send two nuke ops to lavaland, who were then surrounded by several very angry people from earlier and some extra golems on top of it.

References in the game to the game itself are good too. For instance the new holographic wet floor signs. Their description is "the words flicker, like they mean nothing".

These things aren't mutually exclusive and too vague to give a comprehensive answer on.
For things like posters or AI portraits or alternate bar signs or food items, references are great. For new content, I'd often prefer something new to something copied from another game, but that's not always hard and fast either.
