Read the earlier linked starter guide, go through it with patience and you will really thank yourself later. It's not much, 20 minutes or so and you've learned the basics.

If there's any major points which aren't covered there or not covered well enough, just tell us here and we'll update it. The game's learning curve is quite steep (but it's really not as complicated as it first seems) and we're trying our best to make it as humane as possible through the wiki.

Yep, that's all you need to do, the client handles most of it for you.

My personal recommendation for getting started playing the game is to set "Cargo Technician" under your job preferences as HIGH. Some people recommend playing as an assistant but I find as a newbie you're sort of lost on what to do exactly. Cargo tech is a braindead easy job that gives you something to do whilst getting the hang of basic controls.
