I agree, though, that having the account and all its contributions just seem to vanish from the github network although it's definitely not been deleted, feels like a shitty way to handle this.

Apart from some meme/vulgar pull request titles, tg station is nothing special considering github hosts just about anything from the laws of germany to malware source. Then again... they were at times quick to pull the trigger on entire repos that went against their terms.
Might be worth investigating alternatives just to be on the safe side. Not quite sure how github holds repositories responsible for the conduct of its contributors, if at all. Seems like a dumb idea for open source projects. Who would they actually hold accountable? The maintainers? It's not their job to moderate, they have enough stuff on their hands.
