I remember a couple of years ago one there was a thanksgiving event which was literally just getting everyone together to make a thanksgiving dinner, had everyone come in and remodel the bar into a grand dining hall with two massive long tables, chefs and botanists pulled out all the stops to prepare this grand feast, got everyone together and seated, was like 30 players all in the bar at once with the biggest pile of food I've ever seen piled up on the table, place settings for everyone...

When I saw this picture, the story that popped into my head was that he was solving a case in medbay, ambushed from behind. Flipped the table and dove behind it.
As for still holding the scanner, I don't know about you, but putting things away is generally the second thing I do when I get jumped. If you got a weapon on standby, you better believe it's jumping to the first open hand available before anything else.

We talked about this, but figured having the table the wrong way was better than a table leg being drawn across his face.
