Somewhere in the second trip to hell right now, the game is nothing short of amazing.

Multiplayer isn't bad either, the customization is great fun.

Just finished the single player on Hurt Me Plenty, final boss is good and the ending makes me exited for a sequel. Definitely going to replay it on Nightmare.

Nightmare is bonkers, most attacks can rip half your health off. It really punishes bad play.

I also like how the game has some indepth Lore in the background via the codexes and similar.

Does nightmare still have monster revive? That is the only thing I hated about nightmare on old doom

No, enemies just deal a lot more damage. A hit from a Imp's fireball can take about 50hp off, give or take.

Do nightmare monsters also have bloated health pools? Probably my favorite way to play classic doom these days is Brutal Doom on realism difficulty. You die in 1-2 hits from almost anything but monsters also take less punishment. Obviously bruiser types like hell knights and cyberdemons can take a bunch of rockets to the face and keep on trucking but shotgun to the dome is a good strategy for most monsters and does not take a billion rounds. I would love to be able to play like this in newdoom

From the looks of it you just take a lot more damage in nightmare. At least I haven't run into any occasions where an enemy tanked more than it should be capable of tanking.

That's how Killing Floor 2 balanced it to some degree. Enemies tanking more damage just makes the combat less satisfying, and in a game like those that's all there is to the game, so they made the enemies kill you faster.

From my experience Nightmare simply makes enemies deal significantly more damage per attack, they don't seem to gain a health/defense boost.

Ultra-Nightmare is the same but if you die your save is deleted.

Hate that shit. Then again I generally hate the Zdoom community as a whole since a huge portion of it consists of elitist faggots and furries. Plus the modder who makes Brutal Doom is even more of a narcissistic douche than the guy who made Knee Deep in Zdoom. I do play with Roguelike Arsenal from time to time though.

As for Doom 4, nah the enemies aren't bullet sponges. The pinky demon and mancubus can be kind of a bitch though if you don't know to

I've found it to be really good.

The game gets you up and shooting things within ten seconds of the game starting, and there's minimal expository dialogue sequences that take you away from killing Demons. In the entire 10 to 12 hour campaign there were about four expository sequences off the top of my head that took longer than ten seconds to resolve.

The levels are also all well designed, with most of them offering the player a semi-open environment to explore and find secrets.

I do feel like I can understand why some folks might not like Doom's multiplayer that much... but it has that fast paced explosive fuck you multiplayer action that I've been missing awhile(And Unreal Tournament 4 is still too alpha to properly deliver). Admittedly Overwatch does give some of that too, but this is more visceral.

The loadout thing in the Team-based games is a little annoying, but i like always having a hellshot and rocket launcher.

The devs released/are releasing a small update, including a 'classic' viewmodel option where your weapon is centered, a photo mode, updates to snapmap, multiplayer balancing and the multiplayer lobby timer has been reduced.

Fighting the chaingun is actually bearable now.


They've also released a bloody demo

What a wild ride that this game was. Thoroughly enjoyed myself the entire way (Except when I'm OCDing over those secret levers)

Rich Get Richer + Mounted Turret Chaingun became my weapon of choice towards the end of the game. Non-stop minigun action never got old, and dealt with pretty much everyone very quickly, even the bosses.

The classic levels suck dong, though. I need to try multiplayer soon.
