i feel like merc IS actually a good character, he just needs to either get really lucky with his item drops, or you need to use artifacts
if you get 100% crit on merc with a wicked ring, it's GG. you win. you can't be stopped. you can just eviscerate and dash constantly for all those delicious i-frames
also you can just hold down whirlwind and youll never stop doing it as long as youre hitting something

I personally love engineer in co-op. If he gets missile upgrades he enters snoop dog tier and can clear the map stationary.

i feel like both engineer and sniper are pretty garbo unless in co-op. sniper has almost no benefits in sp and engineer's only benefit in sp is his amazing primary attack

Engineer's primary benefit is his ability to fire missiles in my opinion. It allows you to proc cross map which has funny effects on AOE procs and in regards to missile upgrades. He is garbage outside of co-op due to his lack of defensive abilities more than his abilities being bad. Mines would be great if he had the commando's roll for example.

I was taking on the Guilded worms as Acrid on max difficulty.

I started hitting so many damage procs that the game crashed on me and I lost everything. Which is annoying because I am trying to unlock everything on a new machine.

i wish there were more gimmicky ways to build your character with command that didnt suck dick or involve stacking crits
also rare items are waaaay too rare. i tried to get one of every item but even with 2 loops i only managed to get about half the rares, and i didnt feel like spending another hour grinding for the rest. most of them aren't even so good as to warrant making them as hard to get as they are.
i did get one of every common and uncommon item though.
and 130~ish barbed wires

Started playing this again. I bought this game when it first came out and fucking hated it. The combat just never clicked with me, it seemed like no matter I was doing I was always just dying or running from a horde of guys that was always growing, then dying when I turned to fight them.

I still think it's shit that guys can spawn right-the-fuck-on-top-of-you, but after beating the game on drizzle I've worked my way back up to playing on rainstorm and enjoying it.
I've unlocked everyone but the Mercenary and Huntress, but I still need to grab a bunch of items and artifacts.
Anyone up for co-op sometime soon?

It turns out I just fucking hate the Commando, and love the Bandit.

There are two artifacts that DRASTICALLY change the gameplay, and with either enabled it makes the game much more playable.
Command lets you choose the items you get out of crates and shit. They're still fixed by rarity but whenever you find a common crate you can choose any common item out of it. This lets you build yourself out into a way that actually works well against the game instead of a random mishmash of bullshit modifiers and random bleed damage. Having fifteen different heal items that all require silly things to happen instead of stacking one good heal.
Sacrifice gets rid of buying chests and paying for items and instead gives every enemy a chance to drop items for you.

Combining the two makes the game a lot more fun and interesting. It's kind of stupid that these things aren't available to you by default. I feel that the regular, non-artifact enhanced gameplay is just a prelude to when you actually get those unlocked...then you're playing the game "for real".

I got the Sacrifice artifact but I still haven't gotten the Command one. I'm up for hosting unless someone else has more cool shit and would rather show off.

I understand hosting is kind of a bitch for this game but I'll sort it out if nobody else wants to.

Holy shit either this game is turbo hard or i just completely suck at it. Seriously, i have never gotten past the third area, and i always end up just running away from a huge pack of enemies, plinking away at their health for a long ass time, all the while the timer is like "O WOW LOOK AT THIS SCRUB HE SUCKS DICK AND IS TAKING SO LONG BETTER RATCHET UP THE DIFFICULTY MORE LOL"

I think sacrifice works directly against the game design. The point is you aren't really supposed to stick around.

Command is a really good artifact though, especially for coop. I don't mind the randomness in single player, but it makes it so playing a specialized character in co-op a lot more reliable and fun.

I also don't mind the HP of the enemies, but that is because I usually play Acrid.

I literally have starting guy, bandit guy and riot shield guy. I like starting guy best because his FMJ penetrating shot is the only way i can ever do reliable damage to the massive hordes that spawn on my ass. I think i might be doing something wrong

Maybe. Early on its best to not kite too much and use your abilities instead to push enemies back, so you never get super stacks. It also helps you buy your first few items which usually rapidly increase your killing power on commando, who does well even with low tier items such as the knife. If you kite way too much as most characters you end up creating these massive stacks which will slow you down when you eventually find the portal and have to backtrack
