Your side of the story: I was playing a normal round, when I was messaged by an admin to change my name next shift.
Why you think you should be unbanned:
The admins made this argument during our discussion:
They are referring to rule 3:The key point here isn't whether it's explicitly laid out on MRP, it's a part of the core ruleset. The key point is that admins generally don't care enough on LRP to bother enforcing it, but it's still a rule that's on the books.
There is precedent that this name "Kanye West" is acceptable under the normal rules. The consensus is that I've made the effort to fit in a wacky space station, the name is species appropriate, and is not in bad faith.Excessively OOC names fall under rule 3. Make a minimum effort to have your name fit in a setting involving a wacky space station in the future. A firstname lastname minimum is required for humans and felinids; other species may instead choose to use the default names assigned to them, such as those given through random names, or otherwise any name that is species-appropriate. Honorifics and nicknames are not allowed. Admins may get involved if your name is dumb and can approve or disallow names at their discretion while in-game.
Excessively OOC is defined as names which are intentionally hard to read/spell, references to in-game mechanics or OOC terminology, and any form of nonsensical/bad-faith name (ex. Adolf Hitler, FAGGOT PUNCHER, Poop Boy, xXrobustspaceman420Xx etc).
They then make the argument that, although MRP has no written rules about names, they "enforce the rules more strictly" on Manuel. This is where I am in disagreement. There is no "more strictly" in enforcing the core ruleset. You either enforce it, or you don't, and it is enforced on all of the /tg/station servers. The Roleplay rules clearly state this:It does matter because this is the MRP server and we enforce the rules more strictly. Your assertion that all the servers should be treated the same is null and void.
The base rules are not replaced by a set that is more strictly enforced. Manuel rules are base rules + extra roleplay rules. Plain and simple. They make the argument that:These are extra rules.
The RP rules are an extension to the base rules, not a replacement for. Big difference.
There is plenty of truth to this. Manuel rules call for more "civil" behavior which is not a binary thing, an exact science. However, the rules do not outline anything about names. They are all about player behavior, and I behave just fine, that's not the issue here. My point is: this naming issue is not covered by the extra Manuel rules. Any name that is acceptable on Sybil should be acceptable on Manuel.Being an MRP server, we try to enforce a higher standard of roleplay in many small ways that aren't explicitly outlined on the MRP rules page, with the understanding that roleplay is a nebulous thing that's more "i know it when i see it" than an exact science.
And before they try to pull the "why are you wasting our time" or "why do you care" card, it's not about the effort involved. I already changed my name. But I would like to continue using the name Kanye West on Manuel and I'll be punished if I do that. I don't think this is fair, and I think it's unnecessary. It doesn't matter how the admins think it affects roleplay, as a matter of the rules, this is not acceptable.
