Good news is I've made the most progress on that map -ever- today.
and one of my sucky 93% B ranks for it was actually the 684th place in the world on the map, which is a nice temporary prize.
Probably means by the end of the year, with more days like this, I'll get it done.
Not today though, my arms are literally kill from this.
I tell you it's so weird how I can get such a rush over a game about clicking circles at the right time.
This concludes your regularly scheduled overreaction to circles.

Dammit, the CPU I wanted isn't compatible with my motherboard. Oh well, I'll go with a slightly cheaper model. Basically anything's an upgrade at this point and I'm on a budget.

Re: Watercooler/Slowchat 2: Son of Watercooler
The way processors are made is that all the ones from the same group are made in the exact same way, at the same time. Once made, they are tested and then assigned different names and price points. Sometimes, however, it is possible for processors in a production batch to perform better than expected, meaning the company sells good performing processors at lower price points to fill demand for these lower price points, meaning you have a chance of getting a better processor than you are paying for at a lower price point.
Both of the linked processors are physically identical, the latter is however labelled with the best-in-class label. This means that if you spend the extra 30$, you are guaranteed to get a processor which performed well in their tests. If you don't, chances are you will get an identical processor as the more expensive one, however that is far from a guarantee.
According to performance tests, both perform basically as good as the other, with the more expensive one being only slightly better performing. The more expensive one is however the recipient of a newer thermal conductor, meaning it runs at a lower temperature, which means it can be overclocked quite a bit more than the cheaper one, which did not receive this newer thermal conductor.
If it was me making the decision, I would go for the more expensive one. Sure, they are basically the same, but I tend to work my processors for around 5 years before replacing them and, in general, the top-in-class processors survive for much longer than the lower tier ones. Since you are upgrading, you may not need it to work for quite as long, especially since you are buying a May/June 2014 processor. With this in mind, and since budgets aren't infinite, I might suggest you buy the cheaper one and invest the extra 30$ towards something more useful... like coffee.

I don't drink coffee. And since I'm building this thing from what are basically scavenged parts, I think I'll at least drop a few extra bucks to hopefully ensure a few extra months on the CPU.

Re: Watercooler/Slowchat 2: Son of Watercooler
Gosh, I'm really glad September isn't far away, Excited to go back to college because it's fun and it also means I have something else to think about.
Since all I think about these days is about 80% self loathing and self pity, 10% Oh that's cool and 10% empty silence in my head.
College will also be good for other, personal reasons, provided things go well, but boy am I scared.
I still have some nice things in August to keep me going, a movie night on Saturday, and my niece's birthday party on Sunday, so they'll be fun.

Re: Watercooler/Slowchat 2: Son of Watercooler
I improved my own discipline by spending a lot of time in my uni library, in one of the work spots they arranged in there. I get a lot more work done while I'm actually there, because it is an area I associate with studying and classes rather than playing video games.
As a result, I've also become better at focussing on my work while I'm in my dorm or at my parents' house.

"New" computer is put together and mostly functional. Not sure why it's not picking up the third hard drive I installed and I'm not sure what's up with my external speakers, and I'm sure that I'll find a ton of reasons to hate Windows 10 but I'm just glad it's finally done.

Speaking of, I should probably pick up another HDD soon. I only bought 1TB worth of space to tide me over until I made money again.
And then I started buying weeb statues.

Some speakers assume you have them as a part of a surround sound gig if you plug them into the speaker slots. Pluging them into a headphone port is a lazy way to get full audio quality out of them I think. At least that is what I do with my two cheapies, only a mild irritant when I have to take them back out to have headphones work properly.EndgamerAzari wrote:"New" computer is put together and mostly functional. I'll have to try that tonight. I've had these speakers (and one of my monitors) since 2005, and one of them doesn't even work unless you turn it up past at least 20%. Like my life, my computer is a weird mishmash of extremes.Incomptinence wrote:Some speakers assume you have them as a part of a surround sound gig if you plug them into the speaker slots. Alright, so homes on post have two taps on most sinks.
One is standard water, the other is the fluoride enhanced stuff.
Well, last night, the fluoride tap stopped working. Not a big surprise, honestly, but still annoying
Today, it's working again.
It's spurting out the tap in a sickly brownish yellow.
Hooray.

Trust me, the chances of you being the absolute worst there is are pretty low, especially if you go early. People will tend to be more forgiving to the early speakers.

It never is. And trust me, even when you're a veteran public speaker like myself, you still get nervous. Re: Watercooler/Slowchat 2: Son of Watercooler
I have a story about speeches/presentations.
I had to do a pitch about my game to my design and my programming teacher, and it was recorded for marking.
I hate speeches/pitches/presentations, I'm not good with speaking in front of people, even if it's 2 people and a recording.
It had to be a 5 minute pitch, I had 2 minutes content, if that, but I made it through it by ad-libbing extra info that wasn't on my slides.
I actually got a Distinction for it, some how, apparently because I was using my hands a lot and speaking without using my slides (the ad-libbing) I was ticking a few boxes on the mark scheme.
still don't want to do another presentation, even though that one went well.
