I'm aware of the history, I'm just trying to establish that people are treating being labeled as trans or gay as a bad thing that should be used as a punishment.

I suppose its equivalent to making a gay person put "I'm strait" in their Bio. Or more abstractly, making someone with a certain preference claim to have another preference.
Of course, you could also write some 5 paragraph essay on how it presents ironic commentary on modern day homophobia, or otherwise put Young Sweet Thoman in the shoes of a gay man so he can generate a fuller perspective on the human experience and develop as a character.

But truly, the answer to your question, is that it would not nessicarly be a punishment, but it would be kinda funny.
