Good: Immovable rod
Bad: Asteroids (50-50 if command just calls it)

I like a lot of them, but some of them are pretty underwhelming. Not including antag spawns like spiders, ninja, dragon, etc.
Favourite ones:
Favourite ones:
- Aurora Caelus (I like the music and the soft green glow, very atmospheric)
- Bluespace anomaly (I hope you didn't ignore it because your whole department is going on a one-way trip to lavaland)
- Wormholes (I like randomly jumping through portals and having to deal with whatever environment I land in)
- Immovable rod/meteors (I like fixing breaches, do not @ me)
- Vendor uprising (So many people do not notice this announcement and don't react to it until they're about 6 tiles wide)
- Pyro/Grav/Flux/Vortex anomalies (they're all kind of meh)
- Space dust (it's not that interesting)
- Shuttle loan (in fairness I don't play a lot of cargo, but I have had to deal with a big depressurized cargo bay as a miner from a failed bomb diffusal)

Ones that make breaches are fun. Gives engineering a purpose.
Would be more livable if we had a RCD atmos pipe scan on a RPD.

Radiation storm is fun. Scrubber foam event is just a crappy version of the radiation storm event and is worse in every way.

Foam events suck ever since they started lasting 3 billion years.
I love being forced to crawl around 90% of the station for like 5 minutes. So fun

rad storm can be fun, interrupts the flow of the round and gives that disaster feel, can act as a force multiplier if theres plasma in the vents/ai is malf/ascended heretic is muderboning is already going on

If I'm adminned I'll always try and cancel them and every time I do I should get a medal for giving that particular event the late term abortion it deserves

Re: What random events are good and which ones are bad
I really like ones that alter the map or add dead players back in while changing up a part of the map (like pyro anomaly, I'm guilty of spawning them more often than other events when admining).
I really like meteors and love what they can do for a round but it can be a huge bummer when the shuttle will be called with the intention of leaving rather than making things work until a time in the future. So I can't really rely on them much on TG compared to other spaces. So I'll set that one aside.
Rod though? People will stick around, its cool. Rad storm for the same reason as people stated above, grid failure and grey tide as well they give antags new opportunities.
I'd love ion storm so much more if it wasn't so brain dead simple to remove ion laws.
Things like disease outbreak not scaling with population or something (I played on a server where diseases would come onto the station via new crew members as a way to improve this dogwater event and give viro more to do, it was much better), and others could surely be better with tweaks though.
If an event doesn't really do anything to throw a wrench into the round or add anything/enough to do, I'm probably side-eying it and its existence.

Am I the only person who's actually never seen the wisdom cow while playing the round? Its a pretty common event, but I never actually find it (not that I go out of my way for it, though).

Re: What random events are good and which ones are bad
highly intelligent random event tier list
top tier: events that directly affect gameplay and can lead to interesting and unusual circumstances without being incredibly overwhelming or destructive
-bluespace, pyro, flux and grav anomalies
-carp migration
-communications blackout
-disease outbreak (if it rolls something noticable but not shift-ending)
-false alarm (if its something catastrophic)
-grid check
-ion storm
-meteor wave (non-catastrophic)
-bluespace portal storm
-greytide virus (if it opens command/brig/etc or theres no ai)
-processor overload
-radiation storm
-shuttle loan (bomb)
-space vines (on med-high pop)
-stray cargo pod (if it rolls syndie gear)
-wormholes
-every antag event
high tier: events that are good in small doses and can end rounds or fuck everything up, or are otherwise more annoying than round-enhancing, but also can directly lead to cool gameplay moments or forced shakeups
-vortex anomalies
-disease outbreak (if it rolls something awful)
-electrical storm
-immovable rod
-meteor wave (catastrophic)
-space vines (on low pop)
-spider infestation
mid tier: events that have less of a real impact but can still cause fun things to happen
-hallucination and bioscrambler anomalies
-brand intelligence (vendors call you a shithead and throw stuff at you)
-clogged vents (major)
-disease outbreak (if it rolls minor diseases)
-fake virus
-false alarm (if its minor)
-mass hallucination
-meateor wave
-greytide virus (if it opens somewhere meaningless or the ai is active)
-random heart attack
-random animal intelligence (if someone funny picks it up)
-shuttle loan (non-bomb)
-space dust (major)
eh tier: events that are mostly for roleplay, not bad by any means but you could remove them from the pool and not much would be lost imho (not that i want them gone)
-aurora borealis localized entirely within your space station
-bureaucratic error
-clogged vents (non-major)
-market crash
-mice migration
-space dust (minor)
-spontaneous appendicitis
-spontaneous brain damage
-stray cargo pod (if it rolls non-syndie gear)
-wisdom cow
i didnt even realize this was an event tier:
-camera failure
imo the best events are ones that directly alter the round, force players to act in certain ways, add ghost roles and/or open up opportunities for antags to do cool shit without having the potential to end rounds or blow up the whole station

Aurora Caelus is super duper based, and more events similar to it or like it would be very nice. Even 4 years into this game I still like it when an Aurora hits.dragomagol wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 2:43 am Favourite ones:

It just hit me that I've been playing this game for 4 years. 4 whole years. If I had spent the time I've spent playing this game going to college I would have a degree. Jesus fucking christ.
Timberpoes wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 12:41 am From my perspective, players just want to genuinely be listened to. And I don't mean it condescendingly, but to genuinely have their say and for admins to listen, process it and reply. Even if you don't give two shits about what the player is saying, even if you disagree with every part of what they say, players are less likely to leave an ahelp pissed off if you've listened to them and given a reply that directly addresses what they've told you.

Re: What random events are good and which ones are bad
Honestly, the one that annoys me the most is grav anomalies because someone had the bright idea that something that needs to be disabled by approaching it directly has to also hardstun you if you move next it, so most often the anomaly just kills the person trying to disable it. Even borgs. I just kind of let those ones go, they're not worth trying to interact with and I think of it as a dead anomaly spawn. (I'm better off getting them via the bomb imploder)
I don't like rad storms. I don't even think they're very strong for residual benefits for some antagonists, because they block the screen so significantly that they're usually not able to find much to do. I think only blobs really benefit (assuming they're not in maint), which is nice and I think blobs need that breathing room, but 90% of the time its thumb twiddling.
I like crate spawns because I like the scramble to get something out of the missile. I especially find the scramble for the hardcoded nullcrate funny.
Meaty ores have produced some funny results due to xenorgans recently in rounds I've played. I also just like getting some weird species organs.
I don't mind abductors. Dealing with them is funny, and being paranoid of people as you walk the halls is interesting. I've had fun playing 'spot the abductor' in isolated locations, and its really funny when you see one get real bold and waltz into a full department.
Carp now really kick ass and do damage due to their teleportation, it's spooky seeing a carp teleport behind you and bite you in the arse before you even know what's happening. I had one carp migration recently teleport into the toxins room while I was cooking and they trashed the whole room. I spent most of my time fighting back the tide of teleporting fish chasing after me into the hall while trying not to bleed out. Actually a danger, rather impressed.
