Smugglers and Mules

An idea I had that's basically a cross between the standard traitor and double agent. One player spawns as a smuggler and another spawns as a mule. The smuggler has access to traitor gear and has an objective to "steal x item and ensure the mule escapes with it" along with of course, the objective to escape the station alive. Meanwhile the mule on the other hand, does not have access to traitor gear. Their goal is primarily to stay alive and wait for the smuggler to hand the item off to them while maintaining a low profile.

BUT there is a twist. In addition to escaping with the stolen item the mule also has one of two secondary objectives: "kill the smuggler" or "ensure the smuggler escapes on the shuttle/pods alive". The idea being to create a level of tension between the two. The smuggler has the objective to hand the ablative armor off to the mule but the mule has the objective to assassinate him? Tough shit smuggler. Better come up with a way to get that ablative armor on the mule and get the fuck away. Do the exchange and go into hiding or come up with a way to hand the item off to him while creating a diversion to let you slip away. At the same time though security might be a bit suspicious of the mule running around with the ablative vest, or there might be a traitor with the objective to assassinate the mule. Since the mule in question doesn't have access to the same tools as the smuggler (unless he manages to kill him and steal them), it might be best to utilize him and earn his trust for as long as possible before finally taking him out.

So you stun, cuff, and drag the mule into a pod loaded up with morphine. gg ez

No seriously, if the mule has to kill the smuggler with no traitor gear and doesn't? He's just gonna space the vest mid-flight or something because redtext.

The first is a viable strategy but there's no guarantee the mule won't come prepared for the exchange. It might also be viable for the mule to have access to certain traitor weapons too just to counter anything the smuggler might throw at him.

As for the second the mule's primary objective is still to escape with the item so even if he doesn't manage to assassinate the smuggler he'd still get a partial green text if he escaped with the stolen goods. Spacing it though? It's all red text for him and more green text for the smuggler since he'd still be escaping alive.
