Access-restricted fire alarms
Make fire alarms resettable only for people with Engineering access. I'm damn tired of every single idiot being able to lift everything.
They should be still possible to pass through with just a crowbar, so it shouldn't really block anyone for good, and restricting the access on the areas will make it possible to actually keep them engaged in hazardous areas.

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
They're fire alarms. They're supposed to be an emergency use lever that ANYONE can pull.

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
The proposal is to make only Engineering access be able to lift the firelocks; not to deploy them. Anyone can still activate the fire alarm.
This does mean atmos techs can't lift them, though - maybe lock it to Construction access instead (which the Engineering foyer uses)?

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
So, if i get locked in a firelocked area, next to the alarm, with a squad of nuke ops, without a crowbar, im fucked?

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
Yeah, this just sounds needlessly annoying. Anyone can lock me down with them, but only engineers can unlock me? Why would I want that? Half the time the fire alarms are used just to irritate and block people, and this would give that a big buff.

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
We could set the same access as for Engineering foyer, yeah - meaning both Engineers and Atmos Techs would be able to lift them.
There are plenty of times when I try to lock down the area with enormous hull breach and there has not been a single time when someone didn't go "lel, a fire alarm, better reset it" and then waltz right through.
Maybe make access required to make indefinite pulls also. Fire alarms pulled by someone without necessary access could perhaps be 30-60 seconds by default?
You can still easily open individual shutters with a crowbar. You just aren't given access to the magical button than lifts all the shutters and disables the alert light. "Trapped" is a strong word for that.

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
What if... swiping a Construction-level ID on a fire alarm locked it to Construction Access (or unlocked if it's already locked), but default alarms worked for everyone?

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
That would work for Engineers, but what about Cyborgs and AI? Would they be able to activate the access restrictions also, kind of how they're able to log into consoles?

One guy with a low output flamethrower locking down half the crew infinitely.
The most excessive signature on /tg/station13.
Still not even at the limit after 8 fucking years.
The evil holoparasite user I can't believe its not DIO and his holoparasite I can't believe its not Skub have been defeated by the Spacedust Crusaders, but what has been taken from the station can never be returned.

That sounds incredibly... creative. Not to mention rare. Flamethrowers aren't in tool storage, after all.callanrockslol wrote:One guy with a low output flamethrower locking down half the crew infinitely.

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
No thanks. Did you know, fire alarms are typically for emergencies, and are purposely made so literally anyone and their grandma can pull them. They aren't made so only people who can deal with said emergency can pull them.

Appears that comprehensive reading is a rarity those days.
Valid point about anyone and their grandma being able to act in emergency. It's a shame that my suggestion is about anyone and their grandma not having the power to cancel the emergency entirely instead.

Literally what does this add other than making it impossible to get out of being trapped in a fire alarmed hallway because someone set off a firecracker

I'm honestly tempted to do this more often just to see you screech and writhe more, but that wouldn't be cool of me. So come on haters, show me some more of your high blood pressure please.

Getting locked somewhere because you didn't have a crowbar wasn't enough of a ~FUN GAMEPLAY MECHANIC~, now have it so that happens ten times as often and you can't flip it off without getting an engi to come do it.
This is a wonderful idea and I can't believe why it isn't coded yet

Do laser tag guns still set off alarms?

Re: Access-restricted fire alarms
Yes let's add a timer surely this will only alleviate the problem of this being a shit idea by making it so firelocks don't perform their intended function of containing dangerous environmentsCosmicScientist wrote:I'd like to say again, you could fix the issue of being locked down indefinitely by putting the access restriction on a timer that ticks down from the point the fire alarm was pulled.
