Nuclear Power Generator
Replace lord singulo with a nuclear power generator.
Attributes:
- Produces comparable amounts of electricity to lord singulo
- Can meltdown
- Produces radiation
- Uses uranium fuel
- Possible plutonium fuel upgrade?
Things needed
- Uranium/plutonium fuel cells
- Spent uranium/plutonium fuel cells
- Reactor machine parts
- Radiation cleanup kits
- Partial redesign of engineering, to accommodate reactor
- Anti-rad shower
Incase of Nuclear Meltdown
- Explosion
- Tiles around reactor become highly irradiated(radius for radiation would have to be decided, Im thinking something around 20 tiles)
- Power surge(lights blown)
- Radiation wave hits station(triggers radiation event)
- Emp effect for nearby electronics
How does it work?
Modern:
- Reactor heats up air driving turbine(air in place of water)
- Heated air is then put through heat exchangers to cool down and be reused
- Lack of cool air could result in meltdown, or to many fuel rods being used
Futuristic:
- Reactor produces radiation
- Radiation is collected by radiation collection arrays already used for lord singulo
- Arrays turn radiation into power
- Cool air is fed through reactor to keep temps down, or some type of coolant is used that would come in cells
Other Possible gameplay mechanics added
- Dirty bombs to be made from stolen spent fuel cells
- People and objects that were near the reactor will emit weak radiation, unless showered
In case of meltdown
- Close blast doors around reactor
- Keep a canister of supercold air, for release when overheating
- remove fuel cells
Pros
- No lord singulo eating the whole station means less lag in the event of disaster
Cons
- Lord singulo has to be removed

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
Dont have to remove lord singo, just not have it on the map at round start.
And it would give a reason for the enriched uranium item.

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
I like heating up a gas to go to the heat exchanger, since we already got those set up. It give the heat pipes in atmos a reason for existing, also the idea of connecting the stations main air supply into the nuclear generator and.. well...
We need to be able to get uranium from cargo though or have a backup supply. Perhaps if it was "enriched" uranium and unusable in R&D it wouldn't unbalance things?

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
Yah, and you could shove normal uranium in to enrich it...

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
It's always kind of double-edged with these. I mean, singularity is not great in terms of stuff you can do with it. It produces infinite power and can escape, and that's about it. Not a whole lot you can do with it. So adding cooler engines seems like a good idea.
But on the other hand... singularity.
Also, I refuse to implement anything that doesn't work at least remotely like real nuclear reactors.

So make it work remotely close to them.

We already have that, it's capped superpacman generator.

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
Make it run on solid plasma bars like a mega pacman instead because if uranium was on station at round start people would decon it for mat 6 immediately

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
I love how you guys come up with a concept that doesn't actually bring too much good things in terms of mechanics or enjoyability or whatever and when somebody tells you that it's full of holes, you say "well MAY BE we will do this to patch the hole"
how about you come up with a concept that doesn't need patching and actually does something worth implementing

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
its worth implementing because the singulo sucks and this is more fun

+Can hook up reactor out to distro? It's like this guy's never heard of a PWR or a CANDU, who the fuck uses air?
-Meltdowns in space? He wot, m8? Nuclear meltdowns occur because the core melts, and melts down through its containment b/c gravity.
-Isn't a singularity
-Isn't a breeder reactor cooled by explosive sodium, fueled by radioactive uranium and producing cancer-incarnate plutonium by design
-Isn't a singularity
-Pressure explosions are unique to canister code, cannot occur in station air. Cannot chernobyl.
-Isn't a singularity
-We already have a heat-based engine; TEG.

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
I wish the singulo was less laggy, it'd be the best thing ever but the lag makes it lose it's amazing, hungry hungry singulo charm.

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
The problem with a new engine is that, by this point, Lord Singulo is iconic. A barely-contained black hole that the station harvests electricity off of, set up by illiterate chucklefucks who are doing it by rote, maintained by those same illiterate chucklefucks whose idea of 'problem solving' is calling the shuttle. They consider spacing yourself by tripping into fucking lasers to be a rite of passage, half of them worship the black hole like some kind of fucked-up cult, and nevermind all the syndicate agents who can sabotage it at the turn of a dial (and frequently do). The station being torn asunder by a rampaging man-made black hole is one of the iconic SS13 experiences, up there with firesuit spacewalks, beat-happy shitcurity and clowns.
If you want to replace the singularity, you need to come up with something more iconic and even more ludicrously unsafe.

(Solar is safer)
But yah, I want a frigging nuke on the station that isint just a wheely cart.

i dont know if you noticed but the gravity generator does existPsyentific wrote:++NUCLEAR!! it could easily be made into a breeder reactor and function like a canister when exploding
also the singulo sucks
iconocism is NOT more important than fun or playability, and the singularity can cause a lot of lag

Re: Nuclear Power Generator
Plasma Reactor, goes supercritical and ignites all of the air on the station to sustain itself forever.
The most excessive signature on /tg/station13.
Still not even at the limit after 8 fucking years.
The evil holoparasite user I can't believe its not DIO and his holoparasite I can't believe its not Skub have been defeated by the Spacedust Crusaders, but what has been taken from the station can never be returned.
OOC: TheGel: Literally a guy in a suit with a shuttle full of xenos. That's a doozy
