Re: 2k17 /pol/
/pol/ is a pretty shit place to be honest
But they're the de facto counterculture so they have that appeal. Plus when they say they're fighting the establishment, they actually are fighting rulesets created to suppress opinions and trying to get both sides to be able to talk
And when antifa says they're fighting the establishment, they're just rioting against people saying things they don't like and trying to make it impossible to say such things while the police is told to not intervene because the establishment supports them
One of them clearly has better intentions than the other

Trump's win was protected by a system that prevents urban centers from dominating the vote. France does not have the same protection.

I've yet to see a compelling argument for why urban votes should count less than rural votes.

The fact that Macron won the first round of elections seals the deal. As said prior, everyone and their mother is saying to vote for Macron and now that people have seen that LePen has come second instead of first she's going to lose all steam.ShadowDimentio wrote:I wouldn't trust anything anyone says about predictions after Trump's win.
You are defending a shitty system implemented to make sure an equally shittier system doesn't become unbalanced. Maybe instead of bandaiding an archaic as shit voting system you guys actually get together and set up a proportional representation system where it doesn't force a two party system and rampant gerrymandering along both socioeconomic and racial lines. The electoral college, for all intents and purposes has failed its job twice now, with both Reagan and Trump having zero place to ever be in presidential contention let alone win it.ShadowDimentio wrote:>No compelling reason

It's worth to note to all the Americans that all of Europes politics are extremely different compared to Anglo-American ones.
The last time that virtually all parties told everyone to vote for one candidate was with LePens' father in 2002. Chiraq, the opponent, got 83% of the vote.
The polls are averaging at 20% point difference for Macron, not the measly 4% that Clinton was put at.
This is done and dusted, unless a scandal of the magnitude that struck Fillion occurs.

I think the question is: why does a state like Wyoming have more power than a state like New York? (IE 2 senators) its a argument that can go on forever but you should agree that there is a point in both sides.

There aren't any French people in Paris so they didn't get hit by it anyway
Why would the French care?
Also the US really should get on fixing that system sometime. Proportional voting would have meant Trump and Hillary both would probably have lost to some third party moderate that isn't batshit crazy

I do not have a problem with the French's insistence on Laicite.
I do have a problem with the far right quoting how the republic was founded on secularisation when it comes to banning the burqa and shutting down mosques but when the government does the same thing with churches and christian shit they go ape shit and say that their "culture is being attacked!".
No buddy, Laicite goes both ways, it's not a tool that you use against things you don't like, it's a tool used versus all religions so that it doesn't compromise the republic and it's ideals.

All this shit makes me sad because I know that it's going to be years, possibly a decade or two before the left recovers. Even though Trump and people like him seem like the lesser of two evils, I still can't say that I'm happy with the situation. Sanders really was the proverbial lifeboat on the sinking ship

Sanders is a total imbecile. Did you see the CNN debate he had against Ted Cruz a few months ago? He got completely and utterly stumped. He had literally nothing to bring to the table except rambling about THE TOP 1%!
At one point a woman businessowner explained how the universal healthcare he's so keen on had her business in a stalemate as she couldn't expand because doing so would cause the healtcare to go into effect and kill her business, even though she badly wanted to. His response was pretty much tough shit lmao gotta have that socialism healthcare!

Re: 2k17 /pol/
What nobody considers is the fact that you're already paying for other people's healthcare. When someone comes into an emergency room, gets treated, and can't pay for it, they get an obscenely expensive bill for it. Either they default on the bill and the cost is transferred to the state and by taxpayer, they end up on welfare while they're trying to pay the bill and the cost is transferred to the state and by extension taxpayer, or both. It makes much more financial sense to use taxpayer funds to treat minor problems with quality preventative care before they fester into massive, expensive ones that taxpayers will end up having to pay for anyway.

medical and health insurance costs are also radically different for teenage and early-20s NEETs, i.e. most people in this thread, like, if you qualify to be on your parents' health insurance plan then you do not qualify to discuss how much better or worse things are.

Just do it like Europe, seriously
We might have the occasional waiting period for when you stub a toe and go to the ER to complain, but at least you don't go bankrupt paying for insurance or procedures
Just make sure you close the border and heavily vet all immigrants or they'll come and clog up the entire system.
On that note, found a piece of news saying that some people smugglers in Libya transported migrants...To Saudi Arabia, Dubai and sub-saharan Africa for enslavement. Yet more people finding ways to profit off other people's distress

That's a really sly post there. Hit two birds with one stone while making the disingenuous claim that arguments in politics existed back then for some sort of reasonable debate you'd see in research communities. It was an issue ever since human nature was a thing and it's very telling that you reference modern politics.Drynwyn wrote:This is the essential issue with modern politics- people are not entering into arguments with the purpose of taking in information and perhaps altering their opinions, they are there for the endorphin hit that comes with asserting the superiority of one's own position.

Don't know that story but if you have to have a damn helicopter come pick you up then that's not the fault of the hospital that you live too far away or somewhere that the ambulance can't reach.
And in fairness having to pay a shitload for having a HELICOPTER dispatched to come save you quickly is a fair deal to me. It's a helicoper, of course it's expensive!
