Need help identifying bacteria/mold on my electric toothbrush
So tonight I was gonna brush my teeth but noticed that my electric toothbrush was sticky.
You can see here the sheen seeping out. It also smelled like a combination between bread yeast and socks.
After popping the cap off the smell became 10x as powerful and I noticed this gunk underneath.
Was really gross so I brushed my teeth and tossed out the cap then scrubbed clean the buzzing part with dish soap. What kind of bacteria/mold is this? Is it harmful?

Take out the batteries and throw it in the bin, that's the kind of mould that thrives on wet-spaces you dont need to introduce to your mouth.

Yeah, this. Make a habit of removing the head of the brush to prevent and make sure the plastic is more or less dry after you rinse it. Mold thrives in enclosed, moist spaces.bobbahbrown wrote:swept by god you need to RINSE UNDER THE BRUSH AFTER USE INSIDE AND OUT ahshfhjfmdmshfha

Whether or not you clean it or toss it depends on how squeamish you are. But if you clean it well, you're probably fine. Mold spores are everywhere (you're breathing them in right now), so you won't need to worry about mold growing in your mouth since your body is built to prevent that. Just make sure you clean the brush well with vinegar, soap, or alcohol first, to clean off the mold and any byproducts that might make you sick if ingested. Maybe replace the head too.

Re: Need help identifying bacteria/mold on my electric toothbrush
Swept you've made quite a few posts here this year pertaining to your health and I can't help but think this sort of thing may be related. I also notice you described using the toothbrush before throwing away the head and cleaning the base which seems like it might've been a mistake.

Use a manual toothbrush like a man, electric toothbrushes are just moldy vibrators

Re: Need help identifying bacteria/mold on my electric toothbrush
I've always kinda liked electric over manual. I'd use a manual but, I wouldn't be ecstatic about it. Easier to not apply too much pressure with an electric too

the nails we can see seem to be taken care of so to my way of thinking at least it's weird the toothbrush is in such a state

I have really deep cuticles so even when I cut my nails they still seem long. I also play the piano a lot so keeping short fingernails is just a habit.cacogen wrote:the nails we can see seem to be taken care of so to my way of thinking at least it's weird the toothbrush is in such a state
