Security Camera: Multi-View Mode

Post by BONERMASTER » #628821

Been wondering why we don't have this yet. It's common practice to have multiple feeds on a security camera system running at the same time on your screen, so why don't we import the same thing for space station?

With curious regards

sounds cool but from a technical point, probably a horrible idea, since cameras are basically just adding a chunk of the station to your view, hence why you can actually interact with stuff through a camera (although most things have already been dealt with such as telekineses), so performance or something etc etc

I remember being hyped for AI multicam and it was unusable garbage. The TGUI window for security cameras was a dream come true though and an addition that previously seemed impossible so I don't know why'd you need to see more than one camera when you can flick through them all so quickly now.

It's definitely a difference if you have to flick through every camera manually, particularly if you have to look for them in the list first. I disagree with it being too powerful, but it ain't a feature that I'm willing to argue about for multiple days. I'll leave the thread open until tomorrow night, if anyone else from the coding team wants to throw their hat into the ring.

I think it would be a good idea. Would give wardens more of an incentive to play the role of Central Control rather than regular security officer 2.0

Give the camera app a "favorites" button and add a tab along the top that jumps you to the camera. This would be similar to the AI's "RTS camera location" hotkeys.

I’d completely forgotten the AI could do that. I was wrong too, there should be some way to bookmark favourite cameras at least.

I think the favorites list would be a good compromise of that idea.
Like I said though, since the coders are not interested in pursuing this idea, there is no use discussing it further, at this point at least.
