"awfully hot out here"
To survive in these wastes, you must adapt to truly live. The first adaptation is solar panels due to it being a desert, the sun is out most of the day making solars a great power source. To get maximum power generation, you must wipe down the Solars of any dust.
The next adaptation is heat-proof buildings, roofs, walls, floors so that the heatwaves don't burn you to a fucking crisp, A/C's are an optional but nice way of cooling down a building. Sometimes the A/C can break, get some poor soul from engi to fix it.
The 3rd adaptation is not so much an adaptation but more of a tip, make your base near the main station so you can get inside if a dust storm arrives and you don't have enough resources to survive one. They last about 10 minutes sometimes 20 so make sure you have enough stuff or retreat to the base
Environment
There is air out there meaning no need for spacesuits. It also suffers from heat waves from time to time. all-around nice place discounting the heatwaves.
In case you get lost you for your nearest landmark like the: Glasshouse, Crashed shuttle, the HIVE, and lastly the great sand pit.
Mobs
There are threats out there that aren't heatwaves, I call them "things" as they don't look like creatures.
Glass Walkers: The most common creatures in the desert. they deal 6 damage and during the heatwaves, their attacks deal fire damage.
Glass flyers: They evolved from the glass walkers and got the power to fly. They deal 7 damage and during heat waves, they slam themselves into the ground causing them to explode.
Glass balls: Kinda like babies, they stroll around in groups of 3 or more. they deal 3 damage and during heat waves, they turn into balls of fire, not fireballs
Glass Megafauna:
Glass Striders: Like Giraffes but angry. They deal 15 damage, and during heatwaves, they can shoot fireballs
There are also worms, they are big and hard to kill, but hey. worm.
Before HotBox there were other stations, that didn't pan out so well and ended up being abandoned but lucky for you, you can Reestablish them but that's for later. These bases are aligned to a department and therefore have treasure from that department. Here's a list of them.
Service Station: This station has all of the service rooms and NOTHING else, besides it's treasure which is just things you would find in service-related places
Medical Station: Great for Organ Harvesting and Gather medical supplies. the first one happens more though
Mini-Cargo Station: Meant to expand the range of the main cargo station, this little station is quite well fitted for reestablishment.
Research Station: This station has since been infested with slimes or Xenos, your pick! also scattered throughout them are tech disks that may or may not be filled with science
Security station: Enough weapons to arm a small army, security station is the one-stop for all revs
Engineering station: Steal the SM, I dare you.
Reestablishing
So came across a base you like and want to reestablish it, well all you have to do is fix the wiring and get some power going.... and get rid of the "things" that are there, but besides that then you got yourself a nice shiny base
Mining
Below the god-forsaken wastes are the caves, where you will be doing a majority of your mining for the station. The caves are very unstable meaning that parts of them can collapse at any time so be prepared, luckily since the air is safe to breathe you don't need to worry about air, however, you do need to worry about the:
Glass crawler: this Abomination evolved underground away from the surface have to feed off of the glass deposits in the caves, normally their friendly but ever since the station was set up they have become hostile and will kill. they deal 5 damage.
Thirst.
Since this is a desert you of course get thirsty. But if you don't drink water soon enough you may die. here are the stages of dehydration
Stage 0: Your a little thirsty: 75 percent.
Stage 1: You start feeling a little dizzy: 50 precent hydration
Stage 2: You start feeling way dizzier and start seeing things: 35 precent hydration
Stage 3: Your voice becomes raggedy and you start slowing down.: 25 precent hydration
Stage 4: You collapse and start to take damage: 15 precent hydration
Then you eventually die of dehydration
Escaping
So you want to leave the station understandable, the issue is due to the heat the shuttle's radar isn't the best and it may or may not land in the desert instead of the dock. And mobs will attack it so you better HURRY THE FUCK UP.
TL:DR It sandy and it hot

Re: HotBox Station
I like this, particularly the idea of the environment posing its own unique sets of challenges.
A day/night cycle would be cool too (with optional freezing temperatures at night).
