That's about it. Even totalcancer said the rest of the animations are fine. Animators got lazy and used an algorithm that creates animations for each scene based on the preset pattern (emotional, happy, sad, etc), instead of hand crafting. So MOST look like shit.TheColdTurtle wrote:Human/Asari, cutscene walking animations are absolutely dogshit.

Weirdly enough, Turian's and other alien races have good facial animation.

that's ridiculous
He should've gotten at least 30 FPS on the lowest settings. Like I said, this game is designed to run on hardware from 2013-2014.Malkevin wrote:You mean your five year old gaming rig can't play something new at high resolution?Bolien wrote:Yeah I'm on low.Luke Cox wrote:Full specs? http://www.pcgamer.com/how-mass-effect- ... es-legacy/It has too many flaws, too many gripes and inconsistencies to register as a classic. Yet all I can think as I step away from the Tempest after almost eighty hours with the game is that the first Mass Effect had flaws too, and Andromeda is better overall. This is a series that is defined by reinvention, and it has reinvented itself again. Andromeda 2, if it comes, would be an opportunity for that process to continue. I hope it does.

The thing is, they spend A LOT of time doing console specific optimizations. If you took PC's low settings and put it on console it wouldn't even work.Luke Cox wrote:Obviously the presets are different, but I would think that the lowest settings would at least be the equivalent of console settings. Theoretically speaking, any mid-range gaming PC from late 2013-early 2014 should be able to run console ports on low-medium at the very least.

consoles have been doing this for years, luke, if you have the same hardware on every console then you can make things specifically for that hardware and you'll know it works on every unit that plays the gameDrPillzRedux wrote:The thing is, they spend A LOT of time doing console specific optimizations. I remember reading an article about emulation a few weeks ago that covered this sort of thing, the way that truly accurate software emulation of the SNES's hardware needs ridiculous processors, we're talking like 3GHz. It came down to shit like some of the later optimisations and trickery that coders would come up with, like doing things that required race conditions between different bits of hardware on the board and depended on shit like the rise time on the bus outputs and propagation delay and so on. tl;dr having a known set of hardware let them get away with doing shit that strictly speaking happened between clock cycles.Qbopper wrote:consoles have been doing this for years, luke, if you have the same hardware on every console then you can make things specifically for that hardware and you'll know it works on every unit that plays the gameDrPillzRedux wrote:The thing is, they spend A LOT of time doing console specific optimizations. Actually, I should've mentioned that in my little console rant. What you're saying used to be true, even up to the previous console generation (PS3 especially was really fucking weird). This generation, they're using x84 CPUs and even the GPU is just a custom AMD card from what I understand. They're becoming less and less distinct from gaming PCs hardware-wise. Ports are way easier now if you give a shit.Qbopper wrote:consoles have been doing this for years, luke, if you have the same hardware on every console then you can make things specifically for that hardware and you'll know it works on every unit that plays the gameDrPillzRedux wrote:The thing is, they spend A LOT of time doing console specific optimizations. I'm all out of copies. Everyone I've given one said they at least had some fun with it, as flawed as it was. Multiplayer is more enjoyable than the single player, because you only get the good stuff (Combat) and none of the bad (Animations, writing)DemonFiren wrote:So, Ikky.
You said you'd hand out free copies to friends or something like that.
I wonder if there was anyone who wouldn't touch this even for free. By now it seems like either a halfway decent piece of not-quite-crap or an utter train wreck not even worth the disk space.
Obviously you can make hardware-specific optimizations. Although if you have to rely on them to make something barely playable, you either have shitty hardware to work with (namely old consoles) or you just can't/won't optimize for shit. I could sympathize with the whole "tailored software" practice if the hardware being worked with is substantially different from PC hardware. Now, porting is trivial if you took the time to optimize your game. Instead, major publishers contract out the port work to third parties who do the bare minimum. My point with the whole "similar hardware" thing is that if you give a fuck, you can make a game that runs pretty smoothly on all platforms. See: Doom. People need to stop excusing this shit.Qbopper wrote:the hardware being used changes nothing, dude
the part that lets them optimize so well is that you know the exact config in a console and you can't do that on a PC
like, did you not read my post at all
