If you're patrick star - the gimmick on the table here is that it's a FPS, but there's also a movement system that has the speed of old school arena shooters (while being accessible to people who aren't good at those things), mechs that you can call in that drop from orbit and you climb inside of, and some neat concepts for weapons/abilities/etc.
For example, there's a badass grappling hook - it doesn't work ala Just Cause where you attach to a point and get pulled right in, but instead it has a bit of looseness in the way it retracts which allows you to maintain/build momentum. There's a sniper rifle with bullets so large the magazine is practically the size of your head. There's a 20ft tall robot with a sword that shoots electricity and blocks bullets. There's a one way wall you can throw down that makes any bullets fired from the one side deal double damage, shit like that
The reason I'm shilling this game so hard to people isn't because of the neat setting or gadgets, though, the game is just damn well made. Like, that movement system I mentioned - in Quake if you want to maintain momentum, you have to bunny hop, which is relatively difficult if you're not someone who plays the game a lot as you have to know the timing for landing. So instead of that they added a crouch slide, where the initial moments of sliding maintains speed, which allows you to prepare a crouch before hitting the ground, then jump and keep your speed going. It manages to have all that depth but keep it accessible which is really impressive, imo
There's also other neat shit like
- A campaign that tied with that Doom reboot for "my favorite singleplayer campaign of all time" - I have chronic "can't stick with one game"-itis but I beat the campaign in two sittings, then immediately replayed it on the hardest difficulty (and the hardest difficulty is actually possible without being obnoxiously frustrating, like cod or halo or whatever)
- Accurate hipfire(!), to the point of one of the SMGs being so good in hipfire it's actually a detriment to ADS with it (which sucks because it has cool iron sights)
- A fair amount of gamemodes, from Attrition which is TDM with bots (which works really well since if you're having a bad game you can farm AI), CTF (which works really nicely with the movement system), last titan standing (probably the most competitive mode and actually uses teamwork), and some other stuff - and the best part is the matchmaking system they added last patch lets you search for a game in any modes you want at the same time
- I dunno it's fucking fun
hurry up and buy it so I have people to play with, the recent sale made it so there's a bunch of new players and they don't even fucking run on walls it's painful
EDIT: Here's a video of some guy who's cool talking about the game, but if you're at all even passingly interested in the game make sure to follow that spoiler warning, it's not a big deal story wise but the level spoiled is super good
