[ausops] Swagbringer - Impartial and abusive behaviour
Byond account and character name: Swagbringer- Jingfei Zhao
Admin: ausops
Time and Server(Bagil or Sybil) incident occurred: 2017-07-10 17:45:33- Bagil I believe but I am not 100% sure
Detailed summary:
As captain I institute a rule that people who are rude should be killed(This isnt a ban appeal thread, thats other here https://tgstation13.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12057) and in a predictable fashion people die and Ausops begins talking to me.
He immediately starts using an aggressive tone in his questioning, despite at that time not having a full picture of events. I explain my side of the story where his immediate reply is to inquire if I am drunk. I am a teetotaler by choice but what if I had been a Mormon or a muslim? Questions directed at a person private life are completely unnecessary for a game of ss13 and he had no right to ask that question.
He then insults me, despite me being completely respectful towards him, even though I disagreed strongly with the ban.
A central command summary went out stating that my character had bad breath, as a person who suffers from sporadic halitosis this was an extremely hurtful, uncalled for remark.
He then decides to determine my ban length by rolling a d6 dice. This is my biggest issue. Ban lengths should be given for a specific reason and not calculated on the fly. This is a totally unpredictable and nontransparent way of adminning that is ripe for favoritism and abuse. He should stream the results so people can see or flip 6 coins to not have such a variance of results at the very least( proper adminning would be best).
He announces the ban he is going to give me in another centcomm message, which I feel was quite petty and against general admin policy on bans (there was a vote about this that ended in july, if this has changed i will happily concede this point)
Finally he gives me a ban for 696969 minutes, an entirely inappropriate and sexist piece of adminning that again seems to be determined based on his humour rather than any sound reasoning.
In summary, ausops wasbeing unneccesarily petty and was adminning on his own personal whims, rather than on any good basis of decision making. I hope a head admin will respond to this.

I do not have positive experiences from or with you as a sec player.
You are frequently and typically delinquant, and difficult to work with regardless of your job roles that I've seen you play as.
Your name is among the many I generally keep an eye out for.

This is not the ban appeal thread. I am questioning ausops basis of decision making and his general attitude at the time.

For those who don't feel like doing math, he banned Swagbringer for 484 days. Which is an oddly specific number.

Re: [ausops] Swagbringer - Impartial and abusive behaviour
While at a glance it would come off as really rude to handle the ban in a way that is so seemingly showy and IC, in this case I feel Ausops did the right thing. The reasoning for this is that what you did as captain basically royally fucked the round in a way that is past acceptable, which absolutely warrants a ban, but even with your death and banning the round will still be in utter chaos with infighting due to your actions while alive. Pretty much the only way to attempt to salvage the round is to approach it the way Ausops did.
The only thing I'm really taking issue with here is the bizarre ban lengths. I'm hoping Ausops can explain those here, otherwise I think it might be wise to retroactively fix them (although I'm sure that's being discussed in the ban appeal already which I am about to go read through).

The antagonist clown being made how is what ruined the round in my opinion, but if that's your ruling then that's that.
I have to go to sleep now it's pretty late, thank you all very much for looking into this.

Why are admins scared to just perma bad players like this? If they are certifiably shit like this guy just lock the threads at the start lol.

Re: [ausops] Swagbringer - Impartial and abusive behaviour
While the say based conduct could be construed as negative, you must understand that context, behaviour, and severity affect the length of a ban.
A player fucking up and killing someone for the first time out of being new/a huge mistake/lack of context will not be subject to the same level of punishment as someone who is consistently causing frustration with notes indicating that most of their behaviour is malicious while refusing to learn/understand that they're wrong.
While the banlength is a bit long and may as well be a perma, you have to understand that a consistent thing has been that ban lengths are based on context, admins, and the situation. Some admins may ban you from actions where others may warn you. Admins are all fallible humans managing fallible players, so you will generally get different reactions in return for your behaviour as a result. A consistent ban timer for all circumstances is not possible without rigid and strict rules for lording over people.
While ausops was also a bit severe in other aspects, you have to understand that a combination of notes+severity caused what happened to you. The duration is likely be reduced, but I advise you to take this time to reflect and think on how bad what you've done is and what caused you to even catch a ban that long to prevent it from happening in the future. If you can't see why your behaviour lead to every negative thing that happened, then you're marching your way into even longer punishments and less leniency regardless of if ausops acted over the line or not.

>complaining about admins asking you if you're under the influence
lmao do you get offended when a police officer asks you if you're under the influence when you do stupid shit irl? do you make a complaint saying the police officer mortally wounded your feelings by not thinking you might be a muslim or mormon? get the fuck out
oh my god I just read the logs
I was perfectly impartial and neutral starting out
Line 1094: [17:35:15]ADMINPRIVATE: PM: Ausops/(Allad Minsa Recucks)->Swagbringer/(Jingfei Zhao): what happened to the cargotech and miner
only for you to hit me with concentrated dumb
Line 1203: [17:36:26]ADMINPRIVATE: PM: Swagbringer/(Jingfei Zhao)->Ausops/(Allad Minsa Recucks): I insituted a rule that swearing was now a death sentence, Jebediah immediately threatened my rule by saying "fuck you" over the radio. I hunted him down and killed him like the dog he is, the cargotech tried to disarm me so i fucked him up too. Then i spaced me and the miner so no one would dare be rude again, thats the basic gist of it.
I'm right now because a player has just said they've instituted a ''rule''''''' as a non-antag that means they get to kill any non-antags for the most vaguest of things and it clicks in my mind that the player has also been dumb enough to kill not one but two people over this. I am not prepared for a player to be this dumb at such a late hour so I am looking for reasons as to why a player might do this, so I ask if you are under the influence
Line 1220: [17:36:44]ADMINPRIVATE: PM: Ausops/(Allad Minsa Recucks)->Swagbringer/(Jingfei Zhao): are you under the influence
Line 1230: [17:36:55]ADMINPRIVATE: PM: Swagbringer/(Jingfei Zhao)->Ausops/(Allad Minsa Recucks): Its like 6:30pm here no way
you say you aren't and I can't test your BAC over the internet but it doesn't matter because you follow up with this lovely reply
Line 1367: [17:38:42]ADMINPRIVATE: PM: Swagbringer/(Jingfei Zhao)->Ausops/(Allad Minsa Recucks): it wasnt so much the law, as the fact he challenged my supreme authority. if you dont cut down all the small things, then next thing they are murderboning across the station
if you do not understand why this is not what a player wishing to avoid getting banned for killing two people should say, there is no hope and clearly by the content and tone you didn't
I ban you for 696969 minutes. 69 minutes are for small offences when I want to slap someone on the wrist and make them miss a round because a verbal warning and note isn't enough. 6969 minutes are for offences where they have ignored prior warnings or bans. 696969 minutes are for people like you who have a few related notes but then demonstrate they seemingly just don't care for other players.
As for the d6 roll, you have no grounds to seek remedy. There are no official ban lengths and you're lucky it wasn't a d20.

Re: [ausops] Swagbringer - Impartial and abusive behaviour
oh my god you're complaining about how I handled it ic too
at least one other sec member is taking your rule as a reason to just kill people fnr, making a proper set of IC central command annoucements was a great way to a) reinstate a proper captain b) tell all of the current security players to stop following your rule c) let the affected players know that it was handled and d) very clearly remind the new captain to not do what his predecessor did. I know it succeeded on all 4 counts because sec stopped being dumb, the new captain was never dumb and very smoothly entered his new role, and a few rounds later, one of the victims commented on the ban so they obviously knew the issue was handled.
Your feelings being hurt don't mean my decisions weren't well-calculated, your feelings just didn't enter the equation.

If another admin had done that, it wouldn't be in that set of logs, also it could have been a captains announcement from a player and swag is mis-remembering.

The real crime here was me not being able to follow up to Ghom and his gimmick after saying I would sell him the office if he made the burger. I'm not happy you were the one who made a complaint instead of Ghom, at least he was someone I had actually wronged
get out
