Alternative Power Sources
We share ideas about power sources that aren't as shitty as the singularity or as unfun as solars.
The only thing I could honestly think of is a power source that is: human/monkey/mob goes in, power comes out.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
But the singularity is hilarious. I really think it's the best solution for a main power source, although I dislike that the collectors are just collecting radiation and converting it. Feels a little indirect and inefficient.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
Couldn't you conceivably just stick a couple of the radiation collectors into the room that the Gravity Generator is in? Or around it? That's an alternative power source.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
While that would be cool it would only work if the Grav Gen was constantly being powered on and off as that's the only time it gives off radiation.

Radioactive slimes, only produce radiation when well fed but this also causes reproduction

Re: Alternative Power Sources
Rip out human hearts. Add some Science, Hook hearts up to power grid.
Come on, wouldn't a room full of hearts pumping power into the grid be gory and brilliant?

Better yet, why not have the station run off of one giant heart. You strap people into an IV machine, the heart pumps blood out of them at a safe (or unsafe) rate.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
Bicycles in the perma block.
Have them peddle, by pressing a then d or left arrow then right arrow, and have that generate a set amount of power.
Also have Cargo be able to order more, so we can power the station in an emergency.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
Replace the singularity with an eldritch horror writhing in a dozen dimensions. The station runs on pure cosmic terror.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
Biogenerators.
You stick a living creature, Human or whatever, inside it and it draws energy from the body to power a SMES cell.
Now braindead people have a use to the station!

Re: Alternative Power Sources
Multiple generators across the station that use plasma as fuel to generate a lot of energy. They are located inside a cooling room similar to tcomms. If the generator gets too hot, it explodes. If the generator gets too cold(example: cold room is exposed to space from a breach) the generator stops working. Also some option to emergency vent the hot air out of the room to prevent an explosion, preferably into a public corridor.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
How is an ultimately broken game mechanic that puts immense stress on the server and depends all too heavily on the competence of the engineering team fine? I get the point that it's supposed to be dangerous, but it's easy the worst part of the game.Psyentific wrote:It's fine, do not fix it.Stickymayhem wrote:But the singularity is hilarious. Re: Alternative Power Sources
It's just not SS13 without catastrophic engine fuckups wrecking the entire god damn station. Safety and reasonability goes against the spirit of the game.
That said, I kinda miss the old stories of all-consuming plasma fires bursting forth from engineering, devouring all in their path in their unstoppable quest to sacrifice the station to Vulcan. I think Lord Singuloth is getting a little long in the tooth, yeah, but I want something even more stupidly fucking dangerous. What could possibly go wrong?

Re: Alternative Power Sources
How about a good old fashioned reactor that requires cooling, if it heats up, it explodes at max cap. In addition, it blows a 6x6 path straight through the station, damaging anything to the side of the path and killing anything in the path. All the singulo glory and lag condensed into one swift motion.

Supermatter reactor?
It dosent lag untill it goes critical, wherapon it lags a bit as it blows up.
Or we could just have a TEG or something.

I am located here, lurking in your posts, leaving piles of transparent wordings and being confused. Oh, I also try to map...
This, this is an example of what I leave for you.
Also, these days I mostly play Ursit McStation, mostly because I like roleplay.

Re: Alternative Power Sources
Anger powered turbines. You walk into the room it's in and shout your frustrations to give the station power.
Better yet just have the big people powered energy grid from the matrix. Strap people into machine, keep them (barely) alive, receive energy.Skorvold wrote:That's a good one!Remie Richards wrote:Rip out human hearts. Add some Science, Hook hearts up to power grid.

Just a big incinerator that you chuck things in.
Comes at the start of the round with a little group of chickens which you can breed for biofuel.
