Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
It's straining under 50. People dc and can't come back into the shift, 50 is too low for all departments to be properly staffed. Please raise it to 70 - if the concern are the RP standards get more hired help, there is always a hungry janitor near you wanting to admin.
I play Holden Westmacott. Sec/PM main most of the time.

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
BYOND memberships are inexpensive and let you bypass the pop cap. You also get ooc name color, ghost customizations, and five more character slots.
Not saying that this should be the solution, just offering it as a suggestion for getting by in the meantime.

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
Agreed, if not 70 then 60. We're usually shy a subdepartment or two and a handful of heads of staff. About 10 more people minimum would fill that void.

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
A recurring problem I see is packed shifts of 50+ people where there's something like, only a sec officer and a detective. Having understaffed sec or no sec is awful but once the player count is filled in a shift it is what it is.PKPenguin321 wrote:Agreed, if not 70 then 60. What about raising the pop cap and limiting assistant to like 5 slots?

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
The more pop there is the more chaotic it gets which generally is not what you want out of Manuel.
In a perfect world being afk for a certain amount of time would make you lose your spot so someone else can join.
I don’t think raising the cap is gonna encourage people to join sec/head roles. If I see low sec and high pop I’m not picking either.

I think having 90 players would still be less chaotic then how we have about a 20% chance per department for a head of staff.

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
If your sole issue is head participation/hiring, make rev near nonexistant or just remove it from manuel.
I disagree with the lack of a head somehow being more of an issue / causing chaos than an extra 40 players you now have to share space with on the map.
If people are playing for the additional ruleset then the solution should be more servers dedicated to the rulelist rather than having to play tenant house on 1 while the others dance around 5pop. If not, go on basil and help admins escort these players by F1'ing.

+10 players will not chaos "indescribable chaos"
And side note but in-game chaos isn't bad, at least towards the end of a round

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
I don't think Manuel will have issues with chaos when I've seen it have 5 admins to 50 people, but perhaps there's another solution to there being more people of which some might reduce chaos and some might increase it. Perhaps a ruleset that would increase the servers roleplay standards, maybe?

I agree. Rounds can slow down as time goes on and a higher starting amount of players will keep things more interesting longer i.e more conflicts and interaction.PKPenguin321 wrote:+10 players will not chaos "indescribable chaos"

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
At this point the kind of player that would put down some money to get around pop cap is easier to qualify than trying to increase standards, considering that at this point we're still using a lightly adapted goon MRP ruleset. We're just now starting to get the kind of policy discussions that could move our ruleset forward, it's going to take time.confused rock wrote:I don't think Manuel will have issues with chaos when I've seen it have 5 admins to 50 people, but perhaps there's another solution to there being more people of which some might reduce chaos and some might increase it. Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
I am a BYOND member I also happen to be a bit sick of not having departments fully staffed
+10 players will not burn anything down, will have less people accidentally SSDing themselves to oblivion and whilst I like the more stable rounds might make them just a tiny bit more chaotic to stop post 2 hour mark depression, which seems to hit often.

These numbers sound good, but what's really sticking out to me is the extreme pop cap. We should definitely be making use of that currently.Cobby wrote:<really great post>

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
A couple people I've talked to said they had problems doing gimmicks involving ghost roles, even late into rounds, because there's just not a lot of observer gang around. Raising the extreme pop cap would help with that right?RaveRadbury wrote:These numbers sound good, but what's really sticking out to me is the extreme pop cap. Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
I thought this put into perspective how much we need this
Here's what Manuel at full capacity often looks like, notice how many departments are deserted despite the almost complete lack of assistants

Re: Manuel Desperately Needs a Raised Pop Cap
Seeing as we'll soon have another MRP server, expanding the popcap at this point will be problematic. Assuming that we split the pop in half between the two, we need some more time for new players to enter the space and acclimate to the community culture. If we raise the popcap at this point we're going to risk the servers being overwhelmed by new players (similar arguments have existed for why Sybil was kept at lowpop)
Mickyan's screenshots is a good and important point, but we need the EU MRP server up and both servers stable again before we can justify raising popcap.
Having that said, I think that a small raise to the extreme popcap would still be warranted even under these conditions.

In all seriousness ya, id say an extra 5 or 10 slots would be great for peak hours. but as has been said good to wait tell the eu mrp server is running.
