They probably don't understand what it is and what it's for.

For anyone who doesn't know, the purpose of the ectosniffer is, ghosts can tag it so you know there are ghosts in the area, and they want you to make positronic brains.

You think I, as a rational and loyal Nanotrassen roboticist, believe in ghosts? The ectosniffer is just a ploy by Big Silicon to trick roboticists into wasting station materials on borg shells. Don't fall for it.
