Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy necro, but in actual competitive play, necro is objectively awful.
It lacks any real mobility which is a big killer, since it can't get places quickly, and can't disengage/pursue people.
It's defences are designed solely around being bulky, and 1v1's - it doesn't scale up like evades/blocks/invuln's, so it's fodder for focus fire.
It has appalling access to stability outside of super long CD plague/lich form, so you're fodder to CC chaining, which also means you can't even hold a point since shit like engie will literally cc chain you long enough to cap.
It's AOE/condi spam is fair good, but engineers can do it better, while still having defences and mobility.
It has no support. Like, at all. The ONLY support it can give, it regen from mark of blood, and protection from spec wall if you're using it. The other classes can actually like, buff their team mates and shit.
Power builds have high damage, but lichwell combo got nerfed, and it gets hard countered by reflects/moa.
PvE/WvW is fine though, just spam wells and AOE's.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
idk, I've been doing ok in sPvP as a minion master. People will oftenly not fire on your minions but will try and smack you down. If the AI for said minions is actually on the ball for once, which sometimes it is, this can result in wrecking people and being an unstoppable defense.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
I play minion master/condition build in pvp and I do relatively well, but thats probably because I solo queue so I dont get organized teams that know what they're doing. I really wish the AI was better or we at least got an F2 to make all minions attack whatever target you were hitting.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
I don't really think it's an AI issue, despite what I said. If you can actually force them near a target, they'l always attack. The issue seems to be pathing, and it's absolutely random when it does and doesn't work. The megaserver tech seems to have made it worse in some regards. Hopefully with Heart of Thorns they'll address this.

I bought this game at launch and was hyped as fuck.
Then I played it and every class felt exactly the same. It was the same tired hotbar bullshit combat every other MMO had. At least Tera let me feel like I was actually doing the fighting.
FFXIV is better.

The expansion is not out. If you weren't satisfied by the combat system, you still won't be.
engineer: do fuckloads of damage, burn, confuse, and blind on top of your gay passive blind and aegis while giving yourself three fucking boons that last forever
ele: do the same thing with more boons and less cc, cleanse fucking everything
everyone else: do some damage or something i guess 45 sec cooldown

The /vg/ guild is pretty dead at this point, except for my circlejerk, but when the expansion hits it will probably go back up to 60+, for a while.
When the karka event happened we went from ded to 100+, all on our private instance of southsun.
The game isn't the best, but it's still FUN with some friends, even if it's just shitting on scrubs in pvp.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
What class do you play An0n?
The best no brainer setups are either
Chop Chopfor warrior, which is literally just: Get every single axe trait, then autoattack people to death.
211211 ranger, where you just get a bow a press 211211 in full berserker from half the map away and wreck nerds. I actually played with a ranger the other week whos name was literally 211211211. He was very honest.
Berserker staff ele requires more effort, but if you can manage immobilises and stuns, then you basically jsut need to spam people with lava font and they will literally die if they don't get out of it.

Guardian's jsut sit on point shitting out blocks, invulns, stability, boons and healing.
DPS guards do like, judge's intervention, then spin around with their GS and poop out kill circles or some shit.
They're more amusing in WvW where you can burst people down in literally 1 second, from 1200 range.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
It's just awful because they can start rapid firing you while you're physically unable (got help you if you don't have any long range weapons), and during a team fight they can just stand on some ledge and sit their with a shit eating grin, pressing 2 every time it's off CD.
And say what you like about being able to dodge it, when you're fighting someone and you suddenly get rapid fire'd from a ranger so far away you can't even see them, it's pretty dumb.
They're not hard to kill if you can get near them of course, but depending on the map/positioning/lack of mobility because necro, that can be somewhat annoying.

I for one am looking forward to the Necro spec, which will probably just be a fresh addition in a long, unending chain of disappointments. That, and all the grimderps relishing the opportunity to run around with Twilight.
On the plus side, it can't be as horribly boring as the Guardian spec looks, right?

At 35 what's the best way to just grind my way to 80? Is there a guide for that somewhere?
Can I go run a dungeon for cool shit?
I've never been very good at fantasy MMO's. Most of my experience comes from EVE, Neocron, and other sci-fi shit.
I played FF11 a lot but I mostly spent my time grinding and fishing. I played FF14 a bit but spent most of my time crafting.

Fastest way to level is crafting.
Each craft you get to 400 is 10 levels.
Cooking is dirt cheap, jeweler is fairly cheap, I can't remember what else is cheap.
Also zerg around in edge of the mists.
It's literally just an endless xp train, half the servers even work together to maximise their jewing by going around the same circuit flipping shit.

Holy shit they don't give you any goddamn room to store items in the bank if you don't pony up more real money to buy that shit. I had forgotten about that.
I have an inventory full of random boosters and birthday presents and all kinds of other shit and no room to put any of it anywhere.
I ran Ascalon with some people because it seemed like something I should do. I don't know if it was worth it. Did I get a lot of experience for that? Was there a chance to get some really sick drop? It just seemed like such a clusterfuck. It seems like everything I'm picking up is constantly junk, but maybe slightly better junk than the junk I'm wearing. I need to dig around and see if I can find some decent armor and weapons for my level and tho grind/purchase that.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Just get some green level tier stuff for you level off the trade post, and upgrade every 10 levels.
Salvage all the random shit that drops unless it's better then what you have - you can use the shit for crafting later, or sell it for mad dosh.
Because Anet is chronically retarded, lots of very high end crafting shit requires lots of very low end crafting materials.
The problem is, that high level players physically cannot get those materials. Like seriously, the materials you get for salvaging is based on the level of the gear, and the level of the gear is based on your actual level, so there are certain materials where you have to be like, level 50-55 to get - no other way.
Ascalon used to be the premier gold farming location back in the day - you'd get food that boosts gold find, and there were certain mobs in the dungeon that dropped lots of gold, so we would just farm it all day.
Then it got nerfed, because Anet only likes time gated content.
Now you only get good money the first time you do a dungeon, per day. So no more farming.
Edit: Also you should have bought shit loads of gems for gold right at the start son, shit was dirt cheap, and because everyone in my guild had hundreds of gold from karma and cooking exploits we bought in big, and made even more money later. Also bought all the bag, bank and character slots.
Also seriously, just whore in edge of the mists with the zerg, 90% of the people there are just like you, trying to level up as fast as possible.
As well as good xp, it gets karma and gold etc.

I was going to post to say I figured it out but thanks.
That was interesting. Running around as a big clot of morons shitting on random NPC's and randomly getting shit on by roving groups of other server's players. After doing some reading and comparing this area to other areas it seems kinda pointless for people to be fighting eachother here.
EDIT: Did they change the way traits work or the rate you get them at?
I swear I used to have a bunch of trait points but now I only have 2.

rather then putting 5 trait points to get to the first minor trait, it's just 1 big trait point.
So what used to be 30 in a line to max it out, is now 6.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
I prefer this new trait system, you no longer have to pay to reset them. More like the old attribute system from the original GW1 except you can change them every time you're out of combat.
Ironically, back in the earliest days of GW1 you also had to pay to reset your attributes, but that was dropped not long after launch. Anet could've seen this coming.

on the arrival shuttle, I saw the iconic toolbox on the ground. I clubbed myself in the head with it trying to figure out the controls.
Setting the tool box, now bloodied, back on the table; I went to heal myself with a medkit. I clubbed myself in the head with that too.
I've come a long ways from asking how to switch hands.

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
I forgot how much fun necro is though, one of your death shroud skills rips life force out of every enemy around you and with a special trait you can use that to heal allies around you

No what it is,
Damage and chill, then the enemy uses one blink skill, and gets out.
Then the necro is left with it's dick in their hand because they can't stop people from escaping.

look for the little swirls around the hand they're holding the bow with and dodge when they form a circle, after that your average pew pew ranger is perfectly willing to give up his sole advantage to fight you with a greatsword

Re: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
I'd be up for that - before the patch.

I literally have no words, no reaction image, nothing to describe how pants on head retarded anet are.
At every turn, EVERY TIME, they some how manage to assblast necro.
>consume conditions, our only good heal, got it's CD increased to 30s. It also applies TEN stacks of vuln to yourself for no reason.
>it's effected by master of corruption, which CONVENIENTLY reduces the CD back to the current CD. It also makes corruptions apply MORE conditions to YOURSELF.
>plague spams you with bleeds every second. If you have master of corruption it spams you with more conditions every tick
>lich got it's duration nerfed, which CONVENIENTLY can be buffed back up to pre-nerf levels with a trait that now effects it
>they somehow managed to assfuck half the traitrs even more, with more trait conflicts
What the fuck am I reading, holy fuck.
